Street festival in Mariahilf: colorful, free and proud for the LGBTIQ community!
The street festival "The other way around is not wrong" is celebrated on June 7, 2025 in Vienna-Mariahilf and marks the start of the Vienna Pride Week. The fairground extends to Esterhazygasse between Mariahilfer Straße and Damböckgasse and invites all interested parties from 2:00 p.m. to around 8:00 p.m. to celebrate diversity together. Admission is free and access is barrier -free, which makes the event particularly inviting for everyone. District head Markus Rumelhart and numerous representatives: Inside the LGBTIQ community, a strong sign against discrimination.
The festival is under the motto "Together in Mariahilf" and aims to make the LGBTIQ community visible and reduce prejudices. The extensive program offers an exciting mix of music and performances. Starting with a DJ opening, the drag Queen Bloodsugarxo will create the mood, followed by women drumming Ensemble Stixx and an official opening ritual with guests such as Markus Rumelhart and Lucy Mcevil. Further highlights are live performances by Crystal O and the band Kleinabaoho.

The musical offer leaves nothing to be desired. The guests can look forward to a colorful potpourri: Indie radio with unicorn, Quetschn EDM from Dermitiziach and Pop/Rock with cross radio provide entertaining hours. The crowning glory is the DJ closing with the Naughty Night DJ team. The entire event not only serves the entertainment, but also the education about gender identity and sexual orientation-topics that are strongly brought into the light in particular in the Pride-Month in order to make discrimination experiences visible.
Events like this are not only a celebration, they are also important to have conversations about equality and self -determination. It is an opportunity to deal with the challenges and achievements of the LGBTIQ community. The Pride-Month is traditionally celebrated in June and is reminiscent of the Stonewall Riots, which took place in New York in 1969 and are considered the turning point for the queer movement. Even nowadays, organizations such as the Greens are committed to respectful coexistence and legal improvements for the LGBTIQ community.
