When the temperatures rise and the nights are getting longer, this is for many Viennese: Inside with an exciting open-air cinema season. From June 26, 2025, the city becomes the scene of numerous open -air cinemas that promise cinematic experiences under the starry sky. Mein district has selected the best locations for unforgettable films and invites all film lovers to look at the best strips "in the open air", be it in the car, on a meadow or over the roofs of the city.

With the motto "Cinema like never before", the Augarten goes into the 16th round. From June 26th to August 24th, the natural garden of the Filmarchiv Austria will become a hotspot for cinematic discoveries. On a total of 60 evenings, visitors can enjoy film classics, exciting new discoveries and conversations with filmmakers. Particularly exciting: the "Hiking Cinema Bioscope", which brings hand -operated projections and thus brings a nostalgic note to the open -air demonstrations. The ticket prices are absolutely fair with 10 euros for a single ticket and 65 euros for a tens block and at the same time offer a wonderful way to surround yourself on the warm summer night with film art. The program of "Cinema like never before" not only offers a colorful mix of films, but also a journey through different cultures and epochs. The "travel catalog" presents cinematic offers from ancient Egypt to dystopian Australia to modern classic films. One focus is on strong female film heroines as part of the main focus "Female & Fearless". In addition, there will be a tribute for the popular actress Birgit Minichmayr and for the long -time employee Helmut Pflügl.

A special highlight will be the cinematic exploration under the motto "Sommer of Voices", which puts music films in the spotlight - a tribute to Wiener: inside who really want to let it rip. In addition, the cinema fans can look forward to "Cinema Sessions", in which silent films are set to music with live music. All of this takes place in a wonderful oasis in the middle of the city, accompanied by culinary treasures from different regions.

Another look at the summer offer

The city of Vienna has much more to offer! At Rathausplatz, the film festival starts with a clear focus on music films and culinary delights, from June 28 to August 31, 2025. The films shown there are often in original language with subtitles, which ensures an international flair. The main library also offers a special scene with “Kino am Dach”: the motto “Love Stories” will present love films there, including classics such as “In the Mood for Love” and “Before Sunrise”.

The hiking cinema "Volxkino" is also not to be forgotten - it plays in the most unusual places in the city and will stop from 7 to 2025 under the name Karlskino on Karlsplatz. Here is the entry for free and films are often presented in the original with English subtitles. For SCI-Fi fans there is a special event in June with the topic "Fatal Error (?)-AI in Fantastic Film". The film festival "Stumm & Laut" will also show historical silent films with live music from August 21 to 23.
