Neos votes on June 7 on the coalition with SPÖ: Decision is approaching!

Innere Stadt, Wien, Österreich - in Vienna is the continuation of the SPÖ-NEOS coalition on the brink. According to meinbezirk.at on June 7 on the newly negotiated coalition pact with the SPÖ. A two -thirds majority of the votes cast is necessary in order to clear the way for a new cooperation.

The negotiations between the SPÖ and the Neos, which resulted in the Vienna election on April 27, were successful. The SPÖ achieved 39.38 % of the votes, while the NEOs could climb 10 %, which means a gain of 2.5 percentage points. Together, the two parties have 53 mandates in the Vienna municipal council. An agreement has already been reached in one of the past meetings, which could continue the previous "punch crown", such as Kurier.at notes.

the choice and the coalition negotiations

The cooperation between the SPÖ and Neos has existed since 2020 and is now on the agenda again after the recent election. While the SPÖ easily lost in the votes and lost three seats in the municipal council, the NEOs were able to grow by two seats. This development led to intensive conversations between SPÖ boss Michael Ludwig and the Neos, who now apparently want to officially continue their cooperation.

When the coalition pact was presented, which took place on Tuesday in the coat of arms of the town hall, Mayor Ludwig and Bettina Emmerling nominated by the NEOS were present, which is proposed as mayor and city councilor. At the same time, it remains unclear whether Ludwig will symbolically present a pink punch donut in this presentation - an amusing but deep sign for the new beginning of the cooperation.

The way to the new city government

The final decision on the new city government will only be made after the NEOS members have participated in the State Assembly on Pentecost weekend, probably on Saturday. It is critical that the city government members have to be determined on Wednesday at the latest, as the SPÖ committees have to agree to constitute the new city senate.

Although the possibility of a coalition with the FPÖ was also on the table, Ludwig categorically rejected this option. The SPÖ and Neos have brought together the cleverly negotiated compromises and the need for stability in urban politics. A look back shows how turbulent the political landscape has been in the past few months, especially after the failed coalition negotiations at the federal level, which led to the resignation of Chancellor Karl Nehammer in January, such as vienna.at reported.

The coming days will be crucial if the NEOS will vote on their future alliance on June 7th. If the consent fails, this could have far -reaching consequences for Viennese city policy and possibly influence the plans of the SPÖ.
