Viennese students collect 2,880 euros for children in war -plagued Sudan

in the 11th Viennese district, at a school that is known for their committed students, a heart -warming campaign caused a sensation. Three young people, Aliyan (13) and David and Danijel (both 14), campaign for an important concern in their free time. They learned from a classmate who cannot travel home because of the brutal civil war in Sudan. The question that asked them was: What can we do to help?

The answer to this question was an impressive fundraising campaign that was created in cooperation with the SOS Children's Village. The students organized various activities, including buffets, and managed to collect a remarkable sum of 2,880 euros . Aliyan, who acted as a project manager, said that the collected funds should benefit the affected children and families in Sudan, who suffer from extremely difficult conditions. The fundraising campaign was actively supported by teachers and the director of the high school and the transfer of the donations was carried out on May 30th to the account of SOS Children's Village.

The location in Sudan

But why is this help so urgently necessary? The civil war in Sudan, which has been going on since mid -April 2023, has triggered the largest humanitarian crisis worldwide. So far, almost 30.4 million people in Sudan have been dependent on humanitarian aid, and more than 12.7 million people were driven out by the conflict. The government troops and the paramilitary "Rapid Support Forces" (RSF) lead a brutally guided power struggle that has led to massive destruction and unimaginable atrocities. According to reports, this includes ethnic displacements, mass rape and other serious human rights violations that are accused of two parties to the conflict.

According to the United Nations, around 13 million people have to flee from violence in Sudan, with the majority of these people stay within the country. In neighboring countries such as Egypt, South Sudan or Uganda, searched for 4 million Sudaneses . The humanitarian Situation is catastrophic: more than 24.6 million people suffer from acute hunger, and in some parts of the country a famine has already been proclaimed.

international reactions

The international community has so far insufficiently responded to the situation. Federal Development Minister Svenja Schulze recently called for more international commitment and regrets the little attention that Sudan is given compared to other crisis areas. A big step in this direction will be the Sudan conference in which Germany, France and the EU will take part in April 15, 2025. The aim is to increase the pressure on the warring parties and to promote peace negotiations. However, previous diplomatic efforts have often remained unsuccessful, and the situation remains tense.

In this challenging and shattering situation, the students of Gottschalkgasse show that even small gestures can have great effects. Your initiative is not only a ray of hope for your classmates, but also a sign of hope for many in one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
