Drama on the water: Child and two men reanimated after swimming accidents!

On Sunday evening, several dramatic bathing accidents occurred in Vienna, in which a child and two men had to be reanimated. These alarming incidents took place in different locations in the city and throw a light on the dangers that exist when swimming outdoors.

A elementary school child was found in the Badetich Hirschstetten in Vienna-Donaustadt in a critical location. According to Puls24, the child drove in the water for several minutes before it was handed over to the rescue by emergency services. The girl was then flown to a hospital with a helicopter, but the current state of health is unclear and is currently classified as critical.

Savior in action

On Sunday afternoon, there were also two further bathing accidents in the new Danube. In the first incident, a 28-year-old man sank near the Neue Donau subway station. However, passers -by were able to save him in good time and immediately began with the resuscitation, which was continued by the fire brigade to the arrival of the emergency services. The man was also transported to the hospital with a rescue helicopter and is in a critical condition in the intensive care unit.

A second dramatic rescue operation took place two hours later near the Reichsbrücke, where a 41-year-old man had to be recovered and resuscitated from the new Danube. He was also taken to a hospital by helicopter and is currently in mortal danger. Tragically, an 85-year-old woman died in the evening, who was also saved from the new Danube. Despite immediate resuscitation measures by passers-by and police officers, she was brought to the intensive care unit, where she finally died, as [W24] (https://www.w24.at/news/2025/6/badeunfaelle-ein-kind-und-zwei-maenner reanimated)

rescue from the need

In such situations, speed is required. The German Society for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine has published some important tips that can be decisive in the event of resuscitation. Dr. Jan Wnent from the DGAI recommends choosing the emergency call and observing the surroundings carefully. If a lifeless person is taken out of the water, breathing should be checked immediately and, if necessary, began to start with cardiac pressure massages. The technology should be adapted in particular in order to be able to help effectively (DGAI).

These tragic incidents are an important signal not to underestimate the dangers of bathing and always be vigilant. Stay safe and note the known bathing rules to minimize such dangers.
