Viennese wood container provides needy with warm meals!

In Vienna, a new project for the distribution of dishes to the needy is launched at the Siebenbrunnenplatz. The initiative, which Mario Orth from Döbling was guided and financed, opened its doors on Friday, May 30th. 25 kilograms of delicious potato goulash were distributed for the start, which was quickly received. The target group not only includes homeless, but also children, young people and passers -by who may need some support. "I can afford to help others," said Orth to the project. This is not his first attempt: he already distributed food in Döbling in Döbling in the previous year and thus shows a big heart for those in need in the city.

The central location on the Siebenbrunnenplatz attracts many people. Former homeless people in particular have joined the project as an employee to help others. On Monday after the opening, Ravioli were already on the menu. In the future, the stand will be open on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10.30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. so that many people can regularly supply themselves with a warm meal.

A look at homelessness in Austria

homelessness is a major social issue in Austria, an estimated 40,000 people are affected. Up to 300,000 people are confronted with it in the course of their lives. The reasons are diverse: rising costs, life crises and the end of temporary rental contracts are some of the main causes. Many people no longer find home, and the number of unreported cases is probably even higher. The situation is becoming more and more precarious, especially in Vienna, where about 60% of the homeless people live. There are also around 4,000 people under the age of 30 among those affected.

To meet this serious problem, the "Housing First" initiative was launched. This project aims to provide homeless people their own apartment, which is supported by the Ministry of Social Affairs, non -profit building associations and the Federal Working Group on Homeless Aid (BAWO). By September 2024, around 1,000 people are to be taken off the street. Financing is also secured: around 6.6 million euros are provided in the form of financing contributions and deposits to help people in new apartments.

The concept behind Housing First

The concept of "Housing First" is based on the idea that homeless people first receive an apartment without having to meet strict conditions. This enables you to find stability in your life again. Studies show that four out of five of the participants were able to return to society. As part of the project, up to 512 affordable apartments are awarded, with a special focus on families and women with children. Social workers: Inside, the affected people support and support in crises and everyday coping.

The need for these measures is clear: high living costs and lack of affordable living opportunities contribute to homelessness. A well thought -out project like "Housing First" could be the key to break through this vicious circle and offer the affected people new support.

The operations of initiatives such as the wood container at the Siebenbrunnenplatz and the basic changes that are initiated by projects such as "Housing First" show that there are opportunities to counteract homelessness in Vienna and to help again numerous people.

For further commitment, every support is welcome to continue to offer the needy to a bright spot and to bring the community more together.
