Robbery in the Hugo-Wolf Park: 17-year-old brutally attacked!

Hugo-Wolf-Park, 1190 Wien, Österreich - A worrying incident shook the Hugo-Wolf Park in the 19th district of Vienna-Döbling on June 27, 2025. A 17-year-old guy was attacked by several young men around 10 p.m. The reason for the brutal attack is said to have been the interest of the victim in a 16-year acquaintance, as 5min.

The victim was first addressed before the situation escalated. One of the perpetrators pushed the boy to the ground and hit him on the back of his head. Under the threat of a knife, he demanded the access code to the victim's mobile phone and finally snatched his cell phone. After the attack, the perpetrators fled in an unknown direction. Fortunately, the 17-year-old only suffered minor injuries and planned to be treated by a doctor.

gang problem in the district

This incident is not isolated - Döbling is increasingly reported on young people who are mobbing and threatening others. District head Daniel Resch (ÖVP) confirms the problem and informs that he is in the "intensive exchange" with the police. Similarly, there are worrying incidents in Währing, in which young people make others easier for cell phones, branded clothing and money. Concerned parents have already reported these incidents in the press. A group of young people with a migration background should be preferred in the Olympic Park and Hugo-Wolf-Park and threaten others there, as [the press] (https://www.diepresse.com/19466236/auch-doebling-ein-Band problem) notes.

The increasing youth crime in Vienna throws a shadow on safety in the parks and public spaces. According to the current advertising statistics of the police, the number of predatory offenses rose by 18.1% to 1,394 cases in 2024. The number of suspects under the age of 18 also drastically increased: 14,804 young people were reported in the previous year, which means an increase of 33%. It is particularly alarming that the youngest criminals were only 10 years old, as documented on [today] (https://www.heute.at/s/alarmierend-imer-mehr-krim.

In a time when the feeling of security of the citizens is at stake, it is essential that local authorities and the police take measures together. An interdisciplinary working group for child and youth crime has already been set up to intensify preventive work. The police, magistrate, regional court and NGOs are involved. This group could make a decisive contribution to getting the growing problems in the district and beyond.

With these developments in mind, it remains to be seen how those responsible will react to the growing youth crime and whether it is possible to restore security in the parks and streets of Vienna.
