Children for animal welfare: Vienna conference with exciting ideas!
In just a few days, on June 12th, the Vienna town hall will again open its doors for the second Viennese children's animal protection conference. Here, pupils from six Viennese school classes have the opportunity to contribute their wishes and demands on the subject of animal welfare and to discuss with experts and political decision -makers. The intensive preparation of the children, which was supported by exciting excursions, promises lively discussions and creative ideas that indicate the challenges of animal welfare.
As part of their preparations, the children visited various facilities such as the wildlife service in Laxenburg, where they were able to get to know the dangers of wildlife in the urban area by the explanations of station manager Carina Killian. Garbage and wrong feeding are great risks for the animals. In the Schönbrunn zoo, the kids also dealt with the species -appropriate attitude of farm animals, while they discussed necessities and problems related to pets and agony in the Vienna animal district. Animal protection city council Jürgen Czernohorszky was impressed by the motivation of the children and their ideas for a harmonious living together with our animal roommates. His goal is to further promote the integration of children into such important topics, because after all, their active participation also means an early sensitization for animal welfare concerns, which they should learn in a creative way, as described by role-playing or stories, as described on [animal protection Berlin] (https://tierschutz-berlin.de/tierchutzverein/tierchutververein/tierchutzvereininsights into animal protection practice
The project "Animal Welfare School" was trained for "animal professionals" over a whole school year. A total of 143 young animal rights activists learned everything about the needs of home, game and farm animals. With their findings, they also developed suggestions for the design of habitats for songbirds in urban gardens and even submitted the proposal to introduce a ban on sales for pets before Christmas. Again and again the children also discussed responsible animal purchase and the importance of climate protection in connection with animal husbandry.
"The committed discussion and the constructive suggestions of the children are gratifying and show how important it is to address animal protection issues at school," sums up City Councilor Czernohorszky proudly. The conference should now take place every two years and will therefore take a permanent place in the Vienna event calendar.
