22-year-old injured after work accident on the construction site of the unicorn railway!

A serious work accident occurred on June 3, 2025, around 11:20 a.m., on the construction site of the "Einhornbahn Neu" in Bürserberg, Vorarlberg. A 22-year-old worker was busy unloading when his chain dumper with crane build-up slipped and began to tip over. Fortunately, the worker was able to save himself from the vehicle in good time before it overturned. He suffered injuries in the abdomen and was first cared for on site before he was transported to the Bludenz State Hospital for further investigation. Current information on his state of health has not yet been known.

accidents on construction sites are unfortunately not uncommon. According to iAG-Mainz.de, over 700,000 accidents of work occur in Germany, with about 14 % of these accidents pass on construction sites. This makes it clear that every seventh work accident takes place at a building location. Between 2011 and 2021, the average number of work accidents on construction sites was around 118,000 per year, which corresponds to over 320 accidents per day. In 2021 there were around 56 accidents of work per 1,000 employees in the construction industry, which means a probability of 5.6 % per year.

The most common causes of accidents

The most common causes of accidents on construction sites are diverse. According to the iAG-Mainz.de, contact with objects (33 % of accidents) and crashes (the most common cause of fatal accidents with 43 %) must be emphasized. Most injuries are bruises, sprains and bruises. It is alarming that the probability of fatal accidents in construction is 5.6 times higher than in other economic sectors.

The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Occupational Medicine (BauA) has covered the fatal work accidents in the commercial economy since 1978. Almost 40 percent of fatal work accidents report construction sites, such as baua.de reports. The authority analyzes the collected data and identifies accident focuses to derive preventive measures. This shows how important it is to keep security standards on construction sites and integrate appropriate training courses to ensure the safety of the workers.

The accident in Bürserberg is further proof that security must be a top priority on construction sites. In addition to technical and organizational prevention, personal protective equipment (PSA) is of great importance. Protective helmets, safety shoes and protective gloves can not only alleviate injuries, but also save lives.

We hope for a quick recovery of the injured worker and wish him all the best for the coming days.
