Master and abine: Vorarlberg's amateur football in the 2024/25 season

Dornbirn, Österreich - The 2024/25 season in Vorarlberg amateur football came to an end with a mixture of cheers and grief. In the Regionalliga West, SV Austria Salzburg was able to win the championship title and thus secure the promotion. But not all clubs could be happy about the end of the season. The SC Röfix Röthis and FC Dornbirn in 1913 had to compete in the elite league. FC Dornbirn is also faced with a massive problem: Due to financial difficulties, the traditional association even threatens the forced relegation from the regional league, such as laola1.at reported.

FC Dornbirn had already relegated from Admiral 2nd league in 2023 and had to have admission for the 2nd league in 2024 due to urgent financial problems. The association is indebted with a considerable amount of 849,400 euros and has undergone a renovation process with self -administration. The Regionalliga-West Commission has decided that Dornbirn has to relegate during the season due to the ongoing insolvency proceedings. Gerhard Ölz, FC Dornbirn's chairman, is outraged by the decision and plans to take protest.

the dilemma of a traditional club

While both the rise and the descent has great influences on the clubs, the situation of FC Dornbirn is particularly tragic. In 2024, the association was in difficult financial difficulties, which finally became the resusceptible descent threatened and could not only endanger the sporting but also the entire identity of the association. In a wider context, it turns out that many amateur clubs have to deal with similar dilemas. As notes wdr.de, the necessary youth work is often neglected, which hinders the sporting development of the teams.

Time will show whether FC Dornbirn can preserve its reputation as an important club in Vorarlberg football or whether the bankruptcy proceedings and the associated problems will put a lasting burden on the association. The coming season promises not only sporting, but also organizational challenges, because the state associations are required to find sustainable solutions for their clubs.
