Bödele in the snow chaos: Will the snowmaking system reality?

Dornbirn, Österreich - In the picturesque region of Bödele, Dornbirner Seilbahn AG plans to build a new snowmaking system for the Lifn Lank and Oberlos. This measure is of crucial importance for the future of the ski area, since reliable snow reliability will be sought for the coming years. Managing Director Herbert Kaufmann reports that of the originally 20 possible locations, there are only two choices for the new facility. However, the exact locations are not yet announced because negotiations with the property owners are running. A decision in this important question should be made by autumn, which increases the anticipation in the region.

A central point in this project is the water supply: the planned snowmaking system will require a water storage with a capacity of around 30,000 cubic meters. The concern for the water supply could turn out to be a critical element, because in technical snow -making access to water and the choice of the location are essential. After all, a reliable water flow is needed to react to the challenges of climate change and a cooler winter season.

economic importance of the winter season

The economic aspects are not to be neglected. In order to be considered snow -safe, a ski area must be open at least 100 days per season. This is particularly important over the Christmas and New Years, during this time up to a quarter of the annual income can be achieved. Technical snow therefore plays a key role, not only for the company, but also for the financial yields of the ski area. Especially over the critical holidays, the slope accessibility must be secured in order to compensate for the financial gap that can arise from individual bad years.

The first cost estimates for the project are around 5.5 million euros, which of course also raises questions about possible grants and the financial share of Seilbahn AG. This is also expected to be clarified in autumn, so that all the necessary steps for the implementation of the system can be initiated. In view of the ever changing climatic framework, it is of great importance that the safest conditions for a successful winter season are created. Both the decision about the location and the future water supply will be decisive. The region is eagerly awaiting developments in the next few months and whether Bödele can continue to exist as a popular destination for skiers.
