René Rast cheered: New DTM record with 26th pole position in Zandvoort!

In the run -up to the sixth season race of the DTM, exciting qualifying took place at Circuit Zandvoort. René Rast from Bregenz was already able to set a new record: he drove the fastest time of 1: 32.750 minutes and thus secured his 26 pole position in the DTM. A milestone in his career and at the same time a new chapter in DTM history, as Magdeburg clicks. With an impressive lead of almost three tenths of a second, the competition raced away.

Jack Aitken from Great Britain completed the first row in second place with his Ferrari 296 GT3, exactly 0.275 seconds behind rest. Marco Wittmann, who will contest his 200th DTM race this weekend, started third in the second BMW of Schubert Motorsport. For Wittmann it is a very special occasion that emphasizes how long the career can be in the DTM. Jules Gounon, the best Mercedes-AMG driver in this qualifying, followed fourth place. Thomas Preining from Austria confirmed his ambitions with a solid fifth place in Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Qualifying took place under special conditions: At the beginning it had rained slightly, but the drivers mastered the Situation with Pirelli-Slicks, with the route drying quickly. These conditions ensured that the entire session was very exciting. The competition was hard because Aitken and Wittmann held the fastest times during qualifying before Rast claimed the best time in the final phase, as well as racer.

The leaders Lucas Auer showed a less shiny performance that day and only starts in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 from eleven. The race itself will take place on Sunday at 4:30 p.m., the preparations for the same time qualifying for the fifth championship run will take place on Saturday from 9:50 a.m.

Who is this René Rast, who has now been able to set another record? The Bregenz native started his motorsport trip in the young age of ten years in karting. In the course of his career, he switched between different racing series and won numerous titles, including in the Porsche Carrera Cup and in the ADAC GT Masters. In 2017 he was appointed by Audi as a regular driver in the DTM squad, where he has been impressive since then, as Motorsport Magazin.

With a solid base and an impressive driving style, rest is one of the best drivers the DTM has ever seen. Fans can be excited to see whether he can drive onto the podium again in this race.
