Chaos in front of the elementary school: Bregenz fights against parent taxis!

In Bregenz, parents face a real challenge in the morning: the traffic situation around the Augasse elementary school is like a colorful chaos. While the school children are polished on the new phase of life, the "parent taxis" cause a lot of excitement. Like Vol.at reports , cars, e-scooter and small motor bikes move a rusty hustle and bustle in the school environment. This not only leads to bottlenecks, but also to a questionable confusion.

residents of the elementary school complain of forborses of "parent taxis" who increasingly drop children or turn in the middle of the street area. As if that weren't enough, often incorrectly guided tourists also provide additional traffic chaos. The city of Bregenz has now reacted and is planning various structural measures to increase security for the little ones.

measures of the city

Those responsible have big plans: A widening of the sidewalk to almost three meters over a distance of about 34 meters is planned. In addition, a collection zone for students is to be set up directly opposite the protection path. With an investment of around 49,000 euros gross, the city of Bregenz wants to significantly improve the traffic situation.

However, this is not the only idea in the drawer. As bmimi.gv.at , additional measures for traffic calming are considered. A pure restriction to neighboring traffic is considered impractical. Residents support the measures, which was confirmed by local eye tickets by Vol.at, which document the dangerous hustle and bustle.

The trend towards the parent taxi

But why do so many parents take their children to school by car? According to a survey by the Ministry of Transport, every fifth child in Austria is brought to school by car. The Austria traffic club estimates that around 150,000 “parent taxis” are in use every day. Experts see a growing problem here, because car traffic in front of schools significantly affects traffic safety.

A current survey by the ADAC Foundation shows that almost every fourth primary school child often uses the parent taxi. The reasons for this include connection dates, bad weather and time savings. It is strange, however, that only a few parents lead unsafe ways of school as the reason for this practice. Rather, comfort and security concerns predominate, which leads to an alarming traffic situation. Parents taxis takes the opportunity to learn important traffic skills.

parent taxis are suspected of being able to take part in accidents because they create dangerous situations and lead to carelessness. 62% of the parents express themselves critically about traffic in front of schools, and 56% see dangerous traffic situations given by the "parent taxis". This releases questions: How safe is the way to school? And what can parents do to minimize these dangers?

In order to prepare their children on the way to school, adults should act as role models, often practice their way with them and promote targeted traffic education. A safe way to school could be guaranteed by less used roads and targeted school path security plans. Movement in the morning would not only promote health, but also contribute to better traffic awareness.
