Traffic chaos threatens: Luegbrücke remains two -lined until October!
The Lueg Bridge on the Brenner Autobahn (A13) near Gries am Brenner is the focus in the coming months, because it has reached the end of its lifespan. A bridge test has shown that since January 1, 2025, a single -streak traffic routing has been necessary for both directions for security reasons. Fortunately, however, two-striped accessibility in both directions is guaranteed by October 5th. with delays and traffic jams. In order to optimize the flow of traffic, driving bans for the low -ranking road network were enacted to prevent alternative traffic.
The ASFINAG is currently active in the construction of a new bridge next to the existing structure and has already started. In addition, a comprehensive master plan for the local road network was drawn up in order to master the construction period in the best possible way. The implementation of four central measures is planned in coordination with the police and ASFINAG. Asfinag informs about the details of these measures, which include driving bans and the introduction of dosing lights.
traffic management and diversions
The central measures include the introduction of driving bans on the low -ranking road network, which are valid daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Affected streets run through the municipalities ampass, tulfes, Patsch, Gries am Brenner, and Völs, among other things. Interestingly, from January 1, 2025, a number of dosing lights will also be installed in the area that automatically react to the traffic figures. These are placed at strategic locations in Mutters, Schönberg, Matrei am Brenner, Steinach am Brenner and Gries on the Brenner to better control traffic.
Another aspect that is supposed to contribute to relief in this situation is the expansion of public transport. Among other things, five additional trains are planned every day from Steinach to Brenner, and concrete improvements in the bus offer. The measures also affect the heavy traffic regulations: vehicles over 3.5 tons are directed to the middle of the road, while cars are allowed to use both lane.
long -term planning
The new building of the Lueg Bridge should be completed by the end of 2030. In the coming months, there may also be significant traffic disruptions due to these construction work. Here, too, work is made to optimize travel planning. A driving calendar is available and will enable drivers to better plan their journeys over the burner motorway.
In the entire context of the elaborate infrastructure projects in Austria, ASFINAG is investing over 1 billion euros annually in the preservation and expansion of the road network. These measures are a clear indicator of how seriously the traffic situation is taken and how closely everyone involved works in order to offer citizens a sustainable traffic improvement. Report emphasizes that this is a comprehensive commitment that not only comprises the Lueg bridge, but also other projects in the country.
