Tyrolean young people triumph for first aid at the federal competition!
On May 29, 2025, the 24th federal competition for first aid of the Austrian Youth Red Cross took place at Lake Maltschacher in Carinthia. Tyrolean students showed: inside impressive achievements and secured several medals. A total of 135 young people took part in this competition, which is considered proof of their knowledge and practical skills in first aid. The Tyrolean daily newspaper reports that the team of the Kematen middle school was able to take first place in the category "Lifestyle".
The middle school Kematen prevailed with the students: Inside Valentino Cirabisi, Luca Gumbold, Emma Köll, Ena Vukovic, Lena Ragg and her accompanying teacher Thomas Langecker against numerous competitors and became the federal winner. In the “First Aid Master” category, the BG/BRG Sillgasse from Innsbruck reached second place and also received a golden achievement badge. Philipp Schumacher, the state managing director of the youth red cross Tirol, congratulated the young hero and praised the excellent placements of the Tyrolean teams.
challenges and success
Thomas Rieser, the Federal Office of Education, Contin and for further training, emphasized the challenges of the competition. The participants had to show in different scenarios how they act in emergencies - from the supply of heavy bleeding to stabilizing a broken bone. The participant Lena even reported on a mission in which her team saved a family with poisoning. Such stories underline the importance that first aid in youth is not only taught, but can also have a direct impact on the lives of others.
A total of 150 young people, including from other federal states, took part in this important event. In the competitions in the gold category, which require a 16-hour first aid course, the technical school for agricultural and nutritional economy from Fehring (Styria) took first place, while the Bafep Bischofshofen from Salzburg came second and the NMS Pabneukirchen from Upper Austria. In the silver rating, which requires an 8-hour course, the teams of the PTS Matrei (East Tyrol) dominated the podium places.
commitment to first aid
The commitment of young people in the field of first aid is impressive. Every year, over 120,000 children and adolescents learn with the youth red cross how they can react correctly in emergency situations. Renate Hauser, the Secretary General of the Youth Red Cross, praised both the services of the participants and the necessary teamwork.
The regular first aid competitions at district, state and federal level not only offer a competition, but also a platform to compare the knowledge of the young people and ensure that knowledge of first aid is always present. The annual first aid federal competition is intended to stimulate school teams from all over Austria and promote the competition for medals. The program is part of the broader approach of the Austrian Youth Red Cross, which, in addition to this event, also offers initiatives such as "Roko" in kindergarten and "Helfi" in the elementary school in order to raise awareness of first aid at an early stage. Further information on these programs can be found on the websites of the Youth Red Cross Tirol and the Austrian Youth Red Cross ( Jugendrotkreuz Tirol , Medmix ).
