Tyrol as a hotspot of the life sciences: innovation and networking in focus!
In the first Junitagen, international representatives of the Life Sciences industry gathered in the Villa Blanka in Innsbruck. Organized by the Standartagentur Tirol, the Health Hub Tirol and the Interreg project Promos, Tirol was an emerging location for research and innovation. Council of Science Cornelia Hagele spoke at the opening that research and innovation are of central importance for the future of the federal state.
The Life Sciences area in Tyrol has proven to be dynamic in recent years and has grown more than on average. Not only do the excellent research institutes such as the Medical University of Innsbruck and the MCI, but also the numerous companies that make their roots here. Tyrol is currently home to eight universities and 82 companies that employ around 10,000 people.
networking and cooperation
An important aspect of the meeting was to promote networking and cooperation within the industry. Through bilateral conversations, many contacts were made and new cooperation opportunities were explored. Lecturer from Bavaria and South Tyrol illuminated best practices and experiences that are important in an international context. Especially the focus was also on practical questions about funding and external sources of capital for research and development.
In the context of this exchange, for example, the Cyprumed company presented its innovative technology, which aims to make medication usable in tablet form. In addition, Kincon Biolabs, a spin-off at the University of Innsbruck, developed a method to measure the effectiveness of medication in living cells. The Health Hub Tirol
The newly established Health Hub Tirol opens up additional options for the industry. Managing Chaus Weinberger underlined the holistic way of thinking of the hub, which not only includes medical research, but also promotes innovations in medical technology, e-health, pharmaceutical and biotechnology. With a newly rented office and laboratory area in Innsbruck, which includes around 450 square meters, the hub is to be the central contact point for life sciences start-ups over the next five years.
The expansion of the infrastructure and the promotion of cross -sector cooperation are also clear goals of the location agency. This not only tries to establish companies, but also to strengthen existing companies and support small and medium -sized companies (SMEs) in the field of biotechnology and pharmaceutical development.
health location Tirol
Tirol has long since developed a name as a first -class medical technology location. This is not least evident in the high visibility of Tyrolean medical technology at international events. At events such as the BMT2022, which was the first three-country conference for biomedical technology in Innsbruck, over 800 international participants took part. Here Tirol was able to present himself together with the Comet Center Vascage and demonstrate his expertise.
The challenges through new EU regulations such as the "Medical Device Regulation" (MDR) and the associated requirements for documentation and development of medical devices also employ Tyrolean companies. These have to adapt their research and development strategies to remain competitive in a constantly changing market.
Overall, Tirol impressively proves that it has established itself as a hotspot for life sciences. With a strong basis at universities and companies as well as an active network by the location agency Tirol, the course is very well set for the future.
