Six -year -old boy from Zug recorded: tragedy at the unrestricted transition

Eferding, Österreich - A tragic incident occurred on Monday afternoon in Eferding, Upper Austria. A six -year -old boy was hit by a train and fatally injured. The misfortune happened at around 4:30 p.m. when the boy crossed his bike an unrestricted level crossing at which the red light of the traffic light system shone at the time of the accident. Despite immediate help from three alarmed fire brigades, any support came too late for the child who came under the wagon of the train. Relatives and other witnesses of the incident were looked after by a crisis intervention team in the fire station.

Unlocated level crossings are critical points in rail transport, as a look at the accident statistics shows. In Germany, ten people have died on average in the past few years, and inadequate security measures at level crossings can also play a role. According to KFZ.NET there was a decline in road dead in general in 2016, but security at level crossings remains an important topic. Particularly unrestricted transitions are not uncommon and their condition is checked regularly.

Security at level crossings

Such unrestricted level crossings have to enjoy special attention. One example is the transition at Urberach, which, according to a report by op-online This transition is secured by red and white crowds after residents reported irregularities on the light signal system. Deutsche Bahn has stipulated that trains have to stop at such transitions and give a warning tone to increase safety. Nevertheless, it remains a challenge, especially in areas with higher traffic density and higher risk of accidents.

The sad events in Eferding throw a bright light on the need for more security measures. Because as the current statistics show, traffic safety is a serious topic. In 2016, 3206 people died in Germany - a value that could be significantly reduced compared to the earlier decades, but every single number is still too much. The traffic authorities are required, as are the residents who have to report carefully about the Situation on site.

The community will now have to deal intensively with the causes and possible measures to improve security at this and similar level crossings. This is the only way to ensure that such tragic accidents are avoided in the future.
