Traffic chaos in Lienz: Dolomite bike tour brings locks!

Lienz, Österreich - This coming weekend Lienz will be the center of cycling, because the 37th Dolomite Cycling Route and the 10th Supergirodolomiti move countless sport enthusiastic viewers and participants to the region. On June 8, 2025, the Dolomite Cycle Tour starts at 9.30 a.m., while the Supergirodolomiti sends cyclists onto the demanding route at 6.30 a.m. Both races begin in the Dolomite Stadium in Lienz, which triggers additional anticipation for the event.

But the enthusiasm also comes with challenges, because the events bring extensive traffic disruptions. In many places in the districts of Lienz, Spittal and Hermagor, there will be temporary roads and restrictions on traffic. For example, Tristacher See (L319) is closed to traffic on Saturday evening from 6 p.m. to Sunday noon between Enzianfeld and Christoph-Zanon-Straße in Lienz.

important closures and traffic information

Traffic around the Amlacher crossing and Drautalstraße (B100) is badly affected. In particular between 6.40 a.m. and 7.15 a.m. and from 9.40 a.m. to 10.45 a.m., longer waiting times can be expected. There will also be restrictions on the B110 Plöckenpassstraße from 6.40 to 8 a.m. and again from 9.40 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. The road between Kötschach-Mauthen and the Plöckenpass is even completely blocked from 7.15 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The B111 Gailtalstraße in the Lesachtal is also affected: a lock applies here from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition, drivers should exercise caution on the B100 between Tossenbach and Lienz, especially in the afternoon, where there can be short preservation. Instructions from the police and the security items must be followed strictly, since the road traffic regulations also apply to the racing participants.

a challenge for participants and spectators

The routes of the two events promise a lot of thrills. The Dolomitenrad tour leads via Amlacherstrasse, through the Gailtal to Oberdrauburg and back to Lienz. The Supergirodolomiti, on the other hand, brings the participants back to Italy and Monte Zoncolan via the Plöckenpass. The fastest cyclists are expected to arrive at Lienzer Johannesplatz around 12.30 p.m. (Dolomite cycling) and 1.30 p.m. (Super Giro Dolomiti).
