Herbert Zambra: New district manager of the mountain rescue Osttirol chosen!

Lienz, Österreich - The mountain rescue East Tyrol experienced a change of management at its annual general meeting, which took place on June 6th in the mountain rescue home in Lienz. Peter "Pete" Ladstätter, who headed the fortunes of the Mountain Retting of East Tyrol for 15 years, handed over the district management to Herbert Zambra. Zambra, who is known as an experienced Lienz mountain rescuer, was unanimously elected as the new district manager.

In a well-attended meeting, Ladstätter welcomed numerous mountain rescue comrades as well as representatives of the state management, alpine police, Martin flight rescue and other blue light organizations. The report by Christian Michelitsch, the district manager of the search dog squadron, who told 350 hours and 1,400 kilometers of performance per member of the season. Despite the challenging conditions, two avalanche events were mastered last winter, six search inserts were provided and three on -call services were carried out during the summer.

proven missions and new challenges

The search dog squadron, which consists of ten members, including two women, carried out a total of 32 exercises. Dr. Josef Burger, the mountain rescue state doctor, also informed that twelve mountain rescue doctors are available to the local offices. Ladstätter, who looked back on his work, mentioned impressive 157 missions and 4,445 hours in 2024.

There were 34 that were not offset and 86, which were carried out with helicopter support. Of the 164 accident people, 101 were injured, and unfortunately there were eight deaths. For these services, Ladstätter received applause and standing ovation from his colleagues as well as personalities such as Meinhard Pargger and Matthias Wasinger.

new heights and responsibilities

with Herbert Zambra at the top, the mountain rescue East Tyrol now sees itself in a new chapter. The new district manager emphasized that he does not see himself as a boss, but as a link between the local offices and other organizations. Zambros vision for mountain rescue will certainly benefit from the experience gained in recent years.

Another aspect that was discussed during the meeting was Ladstätter's demand for a general ban on any activity in the open space at avalanche warning level 4. This requirement caused discussions, since the state management of the Tyrolean mountain rescue is distant from possible legal changes and in this regard alone. This divergence within Tyrol's mountain rescue could bring interesting perspectives and challenges in the future.

Overall, the annual general meeting was a successful event that offered both reviews and views. With Zambra at the top, it will be interesting to see how the mountain rescue East Tyrol will act in the future to ensure security and support in the domestic mountains. The big challenges of the coming season are already throwing their shadows ahead.
