Unemployment in Tyrol is increasing: long -term unemployed at record high!
Lienz, Österreich - What's new in Tyrol? The unemployment rate rose by 1.14 percent in May 2025, and that is anything but a pleasant message. According to [Osttirol today] (https://www.osttirol-heute.at/wirtschaft/kein-trendwende-arbehs-im-main-in-osttirol-um-114- percent/), 18,358 people are now unemployed in Tyrol, which means an increase of 1,654 people or 9.9 % compared to the previous year. Despite these sad numbers, Tyrol remains the second lowest unemployment rate across Austria with 5 %.
A particularly serious development is the increase in long -term unemployment, which has increased by almost 19 % in Tyrol. This applies above all to people who have been looking for employment for over a year. According to reports, 69.6 % of the unemployed have been without a job for less than three months. This means that many are still in the fight for a new workplace, while 35 % of the unemployed have already received a setting for a company.
industries in view
The numbers show that unemployment has increased in almost all industries. Gastronomy, trade as well as health and social affairs are particularly affected, whose climbs vary between 12.4 % and 22.1 %. In the construction area, the increase is comparatively harmless with only 5.4 %. It hit the most violent in the Kufstein district, where unemployment rose by 15.1 %, followed by Kitzbühel with 14 % and Innsbruck with 12.3 %.
In addition, it is noteworthy that 33.3 % of the unemployed previously worked in accommodation and gastronomy. This illustrates how much these sectors suffer from the pressure of the economic situation. The figures from the past few months also show a clear trend: the average decline in industrial countries and a sudden increase in long-term employment-over 91,000 people were according to [work plus] in April 2025 (https://arbeitplus.at/statistiken/ Development-Arbeitslos-aktuelles-monat/) long-term
perspectives and outlook
The labor market situation is anything but rosy. The decline in jobs and the increasing number of long -term unemployed is alarming. People with low formal education and foreign workers in particular: on the inside are hard affected. It is particularly instructive that almost all socio -demographic groups are affected by this increase. A clear turnaround is not yet in sight, and the challenges that arise with it are huge.
According to the current figures that were collected by May 5, 2025, the need for support and tailor -made training programs is higher than ever. It remains to be hoped that the responsible bodies will take the right measures to counteract these difficult developments.
