Resistance to gardening expansion: drinking water in danger!

in Reith at Brixlegg is bubbling. The planned expansion of the Schiessling nursery causes excitement among the residents who express concerns about their water supply and possible traffic problems. The resident Werner Summerer and Mag. Bernhard Jochum, supported by La Gabi Madersbacher and Ko Markus Sint from the Fritz list, mobilize against the expansion plans, which according to [Rofan Kurier] (https://www.rofankurier.at/offcanvas-news-lokufstein/6723 resistance- against-gaertneri- Exercise-Waechst) Not only the local idyll could threaten.

The focus is on part of a neighboring field that plans to lease the nursery in order to build two film tunnel houses there. These projects already met with approval in the first meeting of the municipal council of Reith, but the concerns of the residents were not ignored. After statements from the population, the topic was taken up again, but the local council held on to the original approval. Despite certain doubts, the project remains approved for the time being.

concerns of the residents

Special concerns take care of the residents of the strict requirements that must be observed in sensitive water protection zones like this. Mag. Bernhard Jochum emphasized that no substances are allowed to seep away in the water protection zone II. Annainians have therefore appealed to the community and their statements were submitted to the state of Tyrol, where they hope for support.

The nursery itself, on the other hand, argues that the biological cultivation and the use of a closed water system would not be a risk to the drinking water quality. According to my district, the nursery owner also plans to create a cultural protection system for the plants.

traffic problem and municipal authority

An additional point of criticism is the traffic. The access road to the nursery was originally constructed for residents. Deliveries from trucks could make the situation more difficult for the residents because there is only a limited space. The nursery states that only about ten truck deliveries are carried out annually and that this should take place without disabilities for residents.

The municipality has already commissioned independent experts to examine the concerns of the residents. As reported by the Agricultural Information Bavaria, agricultural businesses in water protection areas have to meet increased requirements to ensure drinking water quality. In Bavaria, such requirements are often financially supported by the water suppliers. An equally transparent and protective handling would also be desirable for the Reither nursery.

Overall, the question remains how things will happen. While the residents vehemently opposed the expansion plans, the nursery in the fourth generation is for tradition and biological cultivation. The next steps in this cause could be crucial for the future of the nursery and its neighbors. The state of Tyrol will probably have to make the final decision about the project and thus also provide clarity with regard to the protective measures of the water supply.
