Innsbruck is investing 25 million: Tourismus strategy for the future!

Innsbruck, Österreich - In the next ten years, Innsbruck is facing an exciting development. As leadersnet plans to invest at least 25 million euros in the leisure infrastructure. This is done as part of the new tourism strategy "Region Innsbruck Experience", which was launched by Peter Paul Mölk, the chairman of Innsbruck Tourism. Over 350 participants were involved in the development of this strategy, which Innsbruck is to develop as a lifestyle and experience of alpine metropolis.

The strategy includes four central pillars: worth living, worth experiencing, experiencing and value. Particular attention is paid to the quality of life of the residents and the connection between city and nature. In order to achieve these goals, in addition to the 25 million euros, another 15 million euros are invested in sustainable mobility solutions to facilitate journey and reduce ecological footprint. Innsbruck Airport plays a central role in this context, especially for international visitors and the congress area.

financing and levy levy

To finance these measures, an increase in the levy was decided. From May 2025, the levy will increase to three euros and from May 2026 to four euros, such as MeinDeitkzirk . Mayor Johannes Anzengruber emphasizes that this measure is necessary to cover the increasing costs for the urban infrastructure. A large majority of the approximately 300 members of the Innsbruck Tourism General Assembly approved this doubling.

The planned investments in the leisure infrastructure should not only benefit the tourists, but also increase the quality of life of the locals. Over half of the tourism means are reinvested into the region, which should contribute to the sustainable development of the area.

Future visions and challenges

The tourism strategy aims to increase the length of stay of the guests, maximize the utilization and increase value creation. In the tourism year 2023/24, Innsbruck already recorded an increase in arrivals by 9 percent to 1,638,743. Nevertheless, there are challenges: the average length of stay fell by 3.9 percent to just 2.2 nights. In order to counteract this, Innsbruck tourism is planning targeted product and offer developments.

Sustainability is also very important. The Federal Environment Agency emphasizes that the terms "sustainability" and "tourism" are closely linked. The dimensions of the environment, social and business play a crucial role in the development of a sustainable tourism approach. Innsbruck strives to take these aspects into account in the new strategy.

Finally, the intelligent distribution of visitor flows should lead to the fact that both locals and tourists can enjoy the city to the fullest without overloading. Innovative projects such as "Urban Blooms" on Innsbruck's marketplace promote the encounter between locals and guests and contribute to the attractiveness of the city.
