Innovative software Schneeprophet wins SIS Eco Award 2025!

A true success story from Tyrol: On June 10, 2025, Lumiosys GmbH was awarded the SIS Eco Award. At the ceremony in Rottach-Egern, the two representatives of the University of Innsbruck, Ulrich Strasser and Michael Warscher, as well as Ralf Roth from the Cologne Sports University took the desired awards. The creative software that gave them this honor bears the name "Snow Prophet" and is praised for its innovative connection of weather forecasts, modeling and artificial intelligence.

"Snow Prophet" aims to plan the technical snowmaking in the ski areas in a resource -saving manner. A clever mix of modern snow research data and highly developed digital technologies is used here. The ski areas should not only optimize the slopes, but all of this with minimal resource effort. Ulrich Strasser was pleased with the award received and emphasized the influence of scientific research on sustainable winter tourism. The prize money of 7,500 euros flows into the further development of precise evaluation methods in order to make the software even more efficient. The SIS Eco Award, which is awarded to companies annually, which is involved in environmentally friendly and sustainable winter sports, therefore rewardes innovative thinking and acting in this industry.

sustainability in winter sports

The topic of sustainability is more current than ever in the winter sports world. Wer kennt nicht das Bild von verschneiten Berglandschaften und unberührten Hängen? But reality often looks different: overcrowded parking spaces and a high number of skiers on the slopes are increasingly strain on nature. The chairman of the Hartberg association "Puiva. Schitourfreunde", Egbert Pfleger, appeals to all mountain visitors to show more respect for nature and other athletes. In this way, access to the mountains should be preserved, but should also be protected. Various alpine organizations require regulations to take the increase in mountain visitors into account and not to unnecessarily burden nature.

As you can sustainably travel as a winter sports enthusiast, you summarize in various recommendations: the journey should be kept as short as possible, public transport is a good choice. In addition, equipment and clothing should not be bought constantly, but should be used or repaired as possible. The importance of mindfulness is also referred to when it comes to behavior in nature: garbage should be avoided and taken away, while you stay on given paths and take into account the rest and protection zones. The increase in ruthlessness among mountain visitors is alarming - a rethink is required here. Caretaker emphasizes the value of respect and camaraderie on the mountain, and not only for the sake of nature, but also with regard to the safety of all athletes.

The awarding of the SIS Eco Awards 2025 to Lumiosys shows that innovative technologies such as "Schneeprophet" can make a positive contribution to sustainable development in winter sports. With the focus on resource -saving solutions, we are at the beginning of a new era of alpine management, which respects and protects nature and humans alike.
