Health professions in the spotlight: students are enthusiastic about the health day!

Innsbruck, Österreich - On May 28, 2025, the “Health Day” took place at the higher school for economic professions (HLW) West in Innsbruck. Around 400 students had the opportunity to gain insights into different health professions. The Health Councilor Cornelia Hagele opened the event, which was organized by a project group of the master's degree “MBA in the healthcare system” at the FH Health. The team of hlwest director Martina Lasser received support.

The day offered a variety of workshops and lectures, carried out by 32 volunteers from the fields of medicine, care, therapy and social work. Among the speakers was also intensive care nurse Matthias Baumgartner, who spoke in his keynote speech about the role of social media in connection with the self -image of young people. The event aimed to show the students at an early stage perspectives in health professions, in view of the demographic changes and the increasing need for specialists.

challenges and opportunities in healthcare

The healthcare system is changing and faces complex challenges. The areas of outpatient care, inpatient care, rehabilitation and care have to be increasingly interlinked. Interprofessional cooperation and networked teams are necessary in order to be able to adequately react to the high cost pressure and scarce resources. The importance of digital tools and continuous further training is becoming increasingly important in this context. FOM University emphasizes that future managers must have digital knowledge and agile, collaborative working methods. This is particularly important for training in health and social management, where students also learn aspects such as project management and quality measurement.

The development of new professions in the healthcare industry impressively shows that it is not just about existing professions. At the latest since Coronavirus pandemic, it is clear that the health sector needs new skills and innovations in order to be able to react to future challenges. Events such as the Health Day at HLW West are important steps to inspire and train young people for these professional fields so that they are up to the requirements of the industry.

The importance of interprofessional training

Interprofessional training is crucial to promote communication in multi -professional teams. This was also discussed at the specialist profession of the Federal Medical Association (BÄK) in Berlin. Dr. Max Kaplan emphasized that joint learning in training is essential for health care, especially for the treatment of multimoror, chronically ill and needed patients. The "Interprofessional Health Care" (IPG) course at Heidelberg University is an example of the implementation of this idea by learning students in the health sector together with human medicine students.

Overall, the day of health at HLW West shows that it is important to sensitize young people at an early stage to the diverse and changing professions in healthcare. The Campaign of the State of Tyrol "Always at your side" supports these efforts by promoting young people and career changers in nursing. In addition to testimonials such as Anna-Lisa Haider, who initiated the health day, it becomes clear that the perspectives in the healthcare system are not only challenging, but also full of opportunities.
