New eighth gondola lift on the Fageralm: Tourism Highlight 2025!

Fageralm, Österreich - A new milestone in mountain railway technology is currently being built on the Fageralm. Last Tuesday, the groundbreaking ceremony for an eighth gondola lift fell, which will replace the old two-seater chairlifts. This investment of around 12 million euros, which includes a large number of new parts of the system, is intended to boost tourism in the area. The gondola railway will offer a promotion of 1,160 people per hour and leads in almost twelve minutes from the valley station to a high plateau in 1,745 meters above sea level.

The old cable car infrastructure is not fully rejected. A 17 -year -old train from Großarl is bought and partially modernized, so that the majority of the mechanical system parts can be reused. New elements such as control, engine, gearbox, rope, additional supports and modern cabins ensure that the gondola lift is up to date. Managing Director Daniel Berchthaller emphasizes how important this project is for the tourism industry in the region.

attractive development for families and winter athletes

The new cable car will not only be a significant improvement for winter athletes, but also for families and hikers. The slogan of the initiative, "Temp, enjoy, enjoy it!" Especially for children who want to enjoy the snow -covered slopes, the direct access to the mountain station is facilitated.

Another interesting facet of this project is the granting of the concession for a period of 50 years. These controversial plans were not without challenges, as Christian Steiner, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Reiteralm mountain railways, noticed at the opening ceremony. The Deputy Governor Stefan Schnöll also sees the Fageralmbahn as an important enrichment for tourism in Forstau.

Austria's strong presence in the international cable car

Austria will enter the international gondola market this year with a large vigor. New or replacement systems were built in the ski area worldwide, 22 of which were installed in Austria. The country thus holds an impressive share of at least 11 % in this market, which underlines the importance of domestic mountain railways. Chairman Franz Hörl of the Seilbahnen specialist association in the WKÖ sees the foundation for a sustainable future of cable car management in the ongoing investments.

As the developments on the Fageralm show, Austria not only relies on new purchases, but also on a clever recycling of old structures in order to protect both resources and further increase the attractiveness for visitors. With the new Achter Gondelbahn, the Fageralm not only becomes a hotspot for winter sports enthusiasts, but also a goal for nature lovers and families.

The commissioning of the gondola lift is planned for December 2025, and the anticipation for this innovative development is already noticeable in the region. A big step into the future, which is supposed to preserve the charm of the Fageralm and still meet modern demands, seems to be within reach.
