Violent thunderstorms devastate Styria: around 100 m³ of water in Neuberg!

Neuberg, Steiermark, Österreich - After violent thunderstorms on Sunday, Styria had to fight with regional floods. The Mürztal was particularly affected, where the shortcomer stepped over the banks and flooded parts of Neuberg. Already in the morning the meteorological predictions had pointed out a change in the weather, after a few hot days with temperatures above 30 degrees in Graz and Leibnitz, the first heavy thunderstorms opened in the afternoon. A water volume of around 100 cubic meters gathered on a flooded property. The clean -up work in Neuberg is to be continued on Monday, while firefighters had to keep an eye on the water levels of the surrounding streams and rivers. Cleaning up was also urgently needed in other affected areas such as the Upper Feistritztal.

in the Upper Feistritztal, especially in the municipality of Ratten in the Weiz district, Mayor Thomas Heim reported worrying damage. Flooded basement, cars torn and overturned streams provided chaos. Of all things, the areas that had already been devastated in the summer of 2020 were once again haunted. The storm also caused a dramatic incident: a tractor driver injured his mowing when his vehicle slid in steep terrain. Firefighters were deployed until night to avert further dangers and to stabilize the situation.
