New Koralmbahn: Mayor of Graz is fighting for cheap tickets!

The Mayor of Graz Elke Kahr today appealed to the ÖBB, the BUND, the state of Styria and the responsible transport associations, affordable ticket prices for the upcoming Koralbahn in установлятiving. The new railway line will be put into operation in December 2025 and promises to reduce the travel time between Graz and Klagenfurt to just 45 minutes. This not only represents a significant improvement in transport connections, but could also attract new commuter flows between the two cities.

However,

Kahr makes it clear that it cannot remain when improving the travel time. Existing suggestions for the combinability of the regional composite climatatets must now also be implemented. Currently, the current ÖBB tariff regulations do not allow any regulations that enable tickets to use the Styria climate and the Carinthia ticket together. On the direct connection between Graz and Klagenfurt, only individual tickets from the ÖBB or the ALLIGATIONLET Austria can be used.

tariff structures on the test bench

The new price structures for the ALLIGNATICTION AUSTRIA and the regional tickets have explosive increases in costs. From August 1, 2025, the AUSTIMATICKET AUSTRIA CLASSIC will cost 1300 euros, from January 1, 2026 even 1400 euros. However, Kahr suggests that the combination of the Verbund-Klimaticket Styria should be used sensibly for 499 euros (from July 1st 514) and the Carinthia ticket for 430 euros. With this procedure, the commuters in particular could save up to 456 euros and Grazer every year: even saved 556 euros inside.

In this context, regional organizations such as the Styrian ÖAAB also support the initiative for a compatible ticket model. The ÖAAB calls for a quick clarification to officially implement the ticket model until the start of passenger transport in December 2025. There are currently no uniform ticket solutions of the transport associations or the ÖBB for the planned connection between these two federal states, which in particular presents commuters with challenges.

an appeal to those responsible for traffic

ÖAAB state chairman Federal Councilor Günther Ruprecht has formulated a clear need for action. He emphasizes the importance of expanding the Styrian transport association to expand a "line" to Klagenfurt in order to enable passengers to make a seamless journey. Such solutions would help the commuters to travel both from Graz to Klagenfurt and to easily run in other regions such as Vienna or Radstadt.

The efforts to combine a combined ticket solution are of great relevance, since there are already comparable tariff extensions in other parts of the Styrian Transport Association. This could not only become a collective bargaining project, but also make a lasting contribution to optimizing commuter traffic between Carinthia and Styria.

It looks like all departments must be made responsible so that the Koralbahn as a strategic connection between Graz and Klagenfurt becomes a real success model. Time is pushing and it is due to those responsible to act quickly to create an attractive and inexpensive ticket offer.
