Neudorf-St. Martin, Österreich - The hospice work is very important in the beautiful Leibnitz. Last year, the Hospice team Leibnitz was able to accompany 152 people and their relatives through a dedicated use of 23 volunteers. Each of these helpers brought his passion by doing a proud 1,448 hours demanding but also fulfilling work and lying almost 20,000 kilometers. As meinzirk.at found in the technical school for agriculture and nutritional economy Neudorf-St. Martin also the 25th anniversary of the hospice team, an impressive sign of the anniversary of a valuable institution in the region.

The team leader Heidi Fuchs got the point: humanity, dignity and accompaniment are the cornerstones of the work that these committed helpers do every day. The development of the hospice work in Leibnitz was particularly important: if the association had 13 volunteers in 2017, 10 other volunteers have been won since then, which represents great growth. The need for such support offers is not only shown in Leibnitz, but can also be observed across the board in Styria, where a total of 32 hospice teams support the seriously ill people and their relatives.

variety of support offers

But the work does not stop here. In addition to the good performance of the hospice teams, child and youth-friendly support is becoming increasingly important. palliativecutung.at emphasizes that specially trained children's hospice companions with children and adolescents who suffer from life-shortening diseases. This not only includes direct accompaniment, but also a support in coping with grief, which is often an enormous challenge.

A close -meshed network of volunteers enables those affected to look after individually. Talks, listening and giving time - all of these are essential components of hospice work. The volunteers are both independent of religion and party, which ensures a value-neutral approach to accompanying it.

volunteers in focus

The role of volunteers in hospice work cannot be estimated highly enough. According to hospiz.at were active in Austria over 3,400 volunteers. These helped support over 10,000 patients in their last phase of life and did a total of more than 359,000 hours, with the majority used for individual accompaniment. The valuable contribution of these helpers also extends to administrative, consulting and fundraising activities that strengthen the infrastructure of the hospice and palliative care.

In the future, the Hospizverein Styria has set itself the goal of perceiving death, death and grief as part of life and thus raising awareness. Especially in the coming days, such as the children's hospice and palliative day on June 1st, the focus is particularly on children and adolescents and their families. Here, too, it turns out that the interlinking of volunteering and professional help significantly strengthens the supply network and consoles many people in the last phase of life.
