Acute danger: Walk path at Klosterkirche Fürstenfeldbruck closed!

The idyllic walk behind the Fürstenfeld monastery church is no longer suitable for strolling. Due to acute dangers from falling parts, this has been completely blocked. The city of Fürstenfeldbruck announced the block on June 23, 2025 after a larger piece had fallen out of the facade. The situation is not only an immediate danger, but also an unstable eaves cornice structure that could drop parts on the pent roof of the south sacristy and thus on the Henrik-Moor path. Pedestrians are therefore diverted and must now use the Fürstenfelder Straße to continue their paths.

The Henrik Moor path has been closed by construction since May 31, and now the next closure follows. Cracks and loose plaster clods on the wreath cornice of the monastery church were classified as questionable by a restorer. In order to ensure security, the city and those responsible for monuments are planning further agreements on the situation for the coming week. In addition, construction work is to be carried out for the repair of the Chordach by autumn 2025, according to a report by Merkur .

history of the monastery church

The monastery church of St. Mariä Himmelfahrt is an important building of the southern German Baroque and was built by Elector Max Emanuel of Bavaria from 1700. The architect Giovanni Antonio Viscardi, with the help of the Brothers Asam, created a masterpiece that is known as the "Bavarian Escorial". After the secularization in 1802/03, the former Cistercian monastery was raised to the royal country church and has had the status of a parish and side church since 1953. Extensive renovations have been carried out in recent decades to reduce the impressive facade with its three column regulations and the artistic stucco of Pietro and Jacopo Appiani to their original condition. The church today is a popular destination for visits and tours that give a look at the impressive interior and the breathtaking paintings of Cosmas Damian Asam. target = "_ blank"> wikipedia

The way to renovate

The acute need for action of the monastery church is reminiscent of similar cases in other historical buildings, such as the monastery church in Ilsenburg. Decades of neglect led to considerable damage there, which could be remedied with the help of the German Foundation for Monument Protection. Here and there it is important that a good knack for historical buildings will be shown in order to give you a voice for future generations. In Fürstenfeldbruck, too, construction work and the installation of fishing nets and a facade framework will react as quickly as possible so that the path will soon be open to the public.

Although the walk behind the monastery church is currently not possible, the fascination for this historical building remains unbroken. With its impressive dimensions of 87 meters long, 32 meters wide and an impressive tower height of 70 meters, the monastery church is one of the important cultural monuments in the region. It will be interesting to see when the path can be reopened and the citizens can enjoy the beauty of this building again without worry.
