Europe during the start: Pentecost dialog 2025 addresses security and prosperity!

Schloss Seggauberg, 8430 Leibnitz, Österreich - On June 6, 2025, the Pentecost dialogue "Geist & Present" took place at Seggauberg Castle in the picturesque southern Styria. Under the leading topic "Challenge.Europe", numerous experts from politics, science and society gathered to discuss central questions about the position of Europe in a changing, multipolar world order. State Councilor of Economics and Science Willibald Ehrenhöfer, Minister of European Local Claudia Plakolm, Ecoaustria director Monika Köppl-Turyna and theologian Matthias Beck formed the podium to discuss perspectives to secure prosperity and security in Europe. This is reported by the Styrian State Government.

Special attention was paid to the keynote of the historian Christopher Clark, who dealt with the topic "The end of the public" on June 4th. In his lecture, Clark warned of the threatening tears for Europe, which are related to the Russian attack war against Ukraine. Since the beginning of the conflict on February 24, 2022, the security situation in Europe has been precarious, while hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians: are driven to escape inside. These developments fundamentally challenge the European and global security regulations, as the Federal Center for Political Education

European challenges and opportunities

The central themes of the Pentecost dialogue included the military capacity of Europe, the economic strength and technological independence. It was shown that the European nations not only have to position themselves with each other, but also to global actors such as China and India, which are considered to be the driving forces of a multipolar world order. These changes signal a change in unipolar and bipolar structures, for which the [Future Institute] (https://www.zukunfttsinstitut.de/knowledge/multipolare World Order) also creates awareness.

Another important point was the discussion about the sovereignty of Europe and the need for a clever balance between security and openness. Chancellor a. D. Wolfgang Schüssel gave valuable insights into the challenges of the rule of law and liberal democracy in times of crisis as part of his impulse lecture. Even resourceful approaches to re -industrialization through strategic upgrading found space in the conversations.

The responsibility of all actors

In the final panel, the participants emphasized the importance of responsibility and cooperation of all actors for peace, freedom and democracy in Europe. The Memorandum of Seggauberg 2025 summarizes this request. In addition, the role of the media and political parties in the European discussion are discussed and the effects of the current security challenges on dialogical culture in society.

The next Pentecost dialogue, which continues the “Geist & Present” series of events, is planned for May 20 and 21, 2026. A special highlight remains the ORF documentary about the events and discussions of the current dialogue, which will be broadcast on ORF III on June 15th at 09:10. The cooperation between the Club Alpbach Styria, Joanneum Research and the Diocese of Graz-Seckau creates a fertile forum for future-oriented conversations about the preservation of European values in a rapidly changing world.
