Shock in the outdoor pool: teenagers fall from the 5-meter tower and injures friend!

Last Saturday in the outdoor pool in Frohnleiten there was a serious accident when a 14-year-old boy fell from a five-meter-high diving tower. Like many other bathers, the boy wanted to immerse themselves in the cool water, but slipped unhappily and fell directly into the water, where a 15-year-old boy from the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district was. The 14-year-old met with full force on the back of the 15-year-old, which led to serious injuries. Fortunately, the injured teenager was quickly looked after by a lifeguard and a first-responder of the Red Cross before he was flown to the LKH Graz with a rescue helicopter, as [OE24] reported.

This tragic event is particularly alarming because the outdoor pools are heavily frequented due to the current high outside temperatures and bright sunshine. It seems that the rush of bathers will continue in the next few weeks, which unfortunately often leads to an increase in bathing accidents. Caution is particularly required during the hot season, since the most common causes of bathing accidents are neglecting the duty of supervision in small children or excessive alcohol consumption in adolescents.

First aid and prevention

In such emergencies, every second counts. Initial measures can make the difference between life and death. Experts advise you to first put your own security in the foreground and not simply jump into the water in the event of drowning. Instead, swimming aids such as rescue rings or ropes should be used to safely reach the drowning person. It is important to approach the person from behind in order to avoid clinging and to make sure that the head remains above water. After the salvage, you should start with first aid and regularly check the vital functions of the data subject, as [Maltese] informs.

In order to avoid bathing accidents, parents should make sure that their children are never unattended and learn to swim early. Even in cooler weather, children should be taken out of the water immediately. It is also advisable to avoid alcohol and drugs before swimming and pay attention to obstacles in the water. A responsible handling of water is indispensable to ensure that a trip to the outdoor pool becomes a pleasure and not a tragic incident, such as [Poolsana] and [Maltese] warn.
