15 years of life rescue: Team Austria-Tafel helps in Bruck an der Mur!

The Team Austria-Tafel in Bruck An der Mur celebrates her 15-year success story in the fight against food waste and support for people in need. As part of a celebration, organized by the Red Cross Bruck, the impressive successes and essential work, which will be done in the region, was pointed out at the beginning of June. Since the start of the table in 2010, not only food has been saved, but also hundreds of people in difficult situations have been provided with the saved foods. While the output point on Minoritenplatz supported 30 to 50 people per week at the beginning, this number increased to remarkable 300.

Head of Waltraud Rieder underlines the great need for this aid. "It is terrifying how many people are dependent on our support," said Rieder. Over the years, around 700 tons of edible foods were saved in Bruck on the Mur, and in 2024 alone there were about 60 tons. These numbers not only illustrate the enormous commitment, but also the continuous need for food support in the community.

support from the community

The Team Austria-Tafel receives food donations from regional supermarkets, bakeries and grocery stores that support the organization to meet the need for this help. The city of Bruck an der Mur also makes a valuable contribution by providing the board an issue. In order to cope with the increasing demand, volunteers are currently being sought with a B driver's license who want to work once or twice a month on Saturdays. Interested parties can inform themselves directly at the Red Cross at voluntinbruck@st.roteskreuz.at or by phone at 06645055 634.

The transfer of rescued food does not happen without challenges. This is subject to strict food law provisions that also apply to non -profit organizations such as the Tafel Austria. Aspects of security, hygiene and marketing standards must be observed, which often makes it difficult to take care of people with a quick care. In particular, the handling of allergen lists for donated baked goods or labeling obligations for fruit and vegetables presents the board with additional hurdles. [Tafel-oesterreich.at]

A look into the future

A re -evaluation of food transfer could help increase the number of food donations and thus to support both waste avoidance and to ensure better care for people in poverty. Solutions to simplify the process are already being developed, which strengthens hopes for an effective improvement in this area. The Tafel Austria faces the challenge of fulfilling the necessary requirements and at the same time helping the needy.

With the steadily growing need, the AUSTRACH TEAM shows impressively how important the interface between food rescue and social support is. The success of the past 15 years gives courage and shows that a lot can be achieved together - for the disadvantaged in our society and to protect our resources. [meinzirk.at]
