Tradition meets community: horse pilgrimage to the Maria Kirchental
Hochfilzen, Österreich - What a day in high felting! The international horse pilgrimage took place on June 6, 2025, which is becoming popular from year to year. Over 200 pilgrims, including soldiers from the Austrian Armed Forces and members of the German Bundeswehr, went on a trip to the Maria Kirchental pilgrimage church. The motto this year was: "If you know the goal, find your way" and it was more than just a saying, it was the foundation of this esteemed tradition that started as a small initiative in 2003. MeinDiane reports this year from Kdo & Betrstb Tüpl Hochfilzen was organized.
started the pilgrimage in the early morning at the Barbara chapel, where Brigadier Peter Schinnerl warmly welcomed the participants. After a common prayer and song, the pilgrim group started to move. The route of about 20 kilometers led over the Roman saddle and through the impressive front -kaser gorge, along the Saalach, to the Vorderkaser snack station. Halfway, a little rest and an opportunity for social get -together were offered here before continuing their march. Maria Kirchental states that the arrival at the finish took place around noon.
a historical transport route
A striking feature of this pilgrimage are the load -bearing animals: the Haflinger horses of the Austrian supporting animal center in Hochfilzen and the mulis of the mountain hunters from Bad Reichenhall not only symbolize historical transport traditions, but also endurance and willingness to serve. These animals are real heroes on the steep paths, especially in times when technical aids are missing. Sn were equipped to maintain the historical framework.
The end of the pilgrimage took place with an impressive field mass in front of the baroque pilgrimage church Maria Kirchental, which is also known as the "Pinzgauer Cathedral". Military pastor Richard Weyringer celebrated the service together with other pastors, and the support of the bearing animals was carried out. These solemn moments were musically framed by the Military Music Salzburg and illustrated the special spirit of this event - gratitude for one year without accidents and warlike arguments.
The international horse pilgrimage has developed into an integral part of the cultural calendar in the region, and the participants agree: this tradition is far more than just an event - it is a sign of community and cohesion that celebrates chivalry and responsibility.
