Archives days: Experience Salzburg's history alive!
The "Days of the Archives" caused a lot of interest in Salzburg last week. From June 2 to 7, 2025, a total of 17 archives opened their goals and gave the citizens: inside an exciting insight into the historical treasures of the city. The overarching goal of this event was to convey the history of the city and its districts lively and understandably. The motto of the event presented itself as a special treat: "Turn*points". The lectures and exhibitions not only illuminated the history, but also the meaning of these turning points for society.
Interested parties could not only immerse themselves in the historical documents, but also had the opportunity to take part in tours, workshops and exhibitions. The head of the House of City History, Sabine Veits-Falk, emphasized the central task of the archives: collecting, preserving and conveying information and objects that shaped the culture and history of Salzburg. The archives were distributed in the entire area of the knowledge city of Salzburg, which gave additional insights into their work. Particularly gratifying: for the first time, the house of nature was also included. Another aspect that shaped the event was the progress in digitization in the city archive. The online finder "Saris" enables the user: inside, already browsing around half of the archive stocks comfortably from home. The city archive would like to simplify access to historical information and at the same time promote the haptic experience in the archive. Veits-Falk also emphasized the importance of regular tours for students and school classes who want to get to know the archive and its treasures.
The "City History of Science Talks" were also very well received. Researchers discussed their projects here, and the interest was high: always between 80 and 100 visitors: the events visited the inside. Another highlight was the reporting on the days of the archives in the ORF program "Salzburg today", which addressed the beginning of the event series on June 1, 2025.
