Premiere in Salzburg: Tour of Austria with two spectacular stages!

In the summer of 2025, Salzburg will again become the setting for a sporty highlight. The 74th edition of the Tour of Austria takes place from July 13th and brings numerous fans and athletes to the city. Particularly exciting: Two stages of the famous bike tour stop in Salzburg, including a premiere in Bischofshofen.

The first Salzburg stage begins on July 10th at 12:15 p.m. in Bischofshofen and leads on a distance of 142.1 kilometers with 1,676 meters of alpine landscapes. The route is shaped by mountain and sprint ratings in Hüttau, St. Martin and Annaberg before the cycling professionals open into the final climb into the Alpendorf. Here a 1.9 -kilometer route with a climb of 6.3 percent is waiting for the drivers. The stage winner is expected to be expected from 3:30 p.m.

Festival and swing in the pedals

A very special highlight is that the Salzburger Festival are also part of the Tour of Austria. On July 11th, the second stage starts at 11:15 a.m. from Hellbrunn Castle. This route leads over 142.9 kilometers and 2,752 meters of altitude, with the Gaisberg being at the end of the challenge with an average slope of 9.1 percent. Cycling fans can look forward to exciting competitions that refer to the sporting tradition and cultural wealth of the region.

The Gaisberg itself has a height of 1,288 meters and offers a great setting for this event. In order to make it easier to travel, the public is asked to get by bike if possible because the parking spaces are limited.

a commemoration of Andre Drege

A serious moment will also shape the tour: the start number of the late Norwegian cyclist Andre Drege is not assigned to his commemoration. Drege tragically left the Tour of Austria in 2024 with a fatal fall, and the organization thus shows respect and sympathy for the athlete and his family.

The story of the Tour of Austria goes back to 1949. In the meantime, the bike race is an important institution in cycling cold and warm months alike, whereby it served numerous athletes as preparatory races for the Tour de France. With participations from 20 different teams and 40 applications, the competition is strong and the fans can look forward to exciting competitions.

The Tour of Austria 2025 will be a perfect opportunity for sports enthusiasts to enjoy the impressive backdrops of Salzburg while seeing the best cyclists in the world in action. We look forward to an exciting event that immediately combines sporting competitions and cultural experiences!
