Last weekend, more precisely on September 13, 2025, the time had finally come: the first Pongau Pride Parade in St. Johann im Pongau saw the light of day. With around 600 participants, the event was a success, which the organizers, the Heublumen association, are pleased to report. The parade marched through the picturesque streets of the district capital with colorful flags and cheerful music and sent a clear signal for diversity and tolerance.
Organizers and participants were visibly proud of this festival of colors. Mayor Evi Huber (SPÖ) led the parade together with the initiators and emphasized the importance of this event as part of the festival culture in St. Johann. “The Pride Parade is a significant symbol of the visible recognition of queer communities,” said Huber. Their commitment highlights local support for equality and acceptance.
A symbol of diversity
The Pongau Pride Parade follows the tradition of small pride events in Salzburger Land, such as the Unken Pride or the Mittersill Pride. The idea for the parade came from the regular hay flower get-togethers that take place in Pongau and Pinzgau.
