Wels enthusiastic: New exhibition on the secrets of the universe!
On May 28, 2025, an exciting chapter of particle physics and the secrets of the universe opened in the Wels Science Center Welios with the special exhibition "Trace Search - The Building Stones of the Universe". The event started at 6:00 p.m., and admission was free for the joyful occasion. Visitors could not only browse through the exciting exhibits, but also to talk directly with experts like Werner Riegler from Cern and Jochen Schiek from the Institute for High Energy Physics (Hephy). This opportunity to ask questions was particularly valued and gives the exhibition a personal touch that appeals young and old.
The exhibition not only addresses the much-discussed Higgs particle-whose discovery caused a stir in 2012 at CERN-but also takes up basic questions about the matter and the universe. Thanks to interactive exhibits and experiments, the rather complex topic is presented in an understandable way, so that every visitor feels addressed. The aim is to convey modern research in an understandable way and to emphasize the excellent role of Austrian scientists. [Arabel] (https://www.arabella.at/at/aktuelles/welios-eroffnet-neue- special exhibition-Spursuche-- Baustein-deine-des-siversum/) reported on the progress in the establishment of the exhibition in cooperation with the Institute for High Energy Physics of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, a partner of CERN.
A look behind the scenes
The opening program was peppered with exciting highlights: After the admission, a live interview round with Physik-Expert started at 7:30 p.m.: Inside, followed by a guided tour of the exhibition at 7:45 p.m. Here visitors were able to become witnesses of state -of -the -art science and can be carried into the world of particle physics. It turns out that the Welios is not only a place of entertainment, but also conveys educational content in a gripping form.
For everyone who is enthusiastic about particle physics, there are also numerous other events and programs. Until June 2, there is an exciting master class in the Physics Laboratory. Consistence in Hamburg, where young people can work with real data from particle physics. This is a perfect opportunity for curious heads to learn more about the smallest building blocks of matter and the developments shortly after the big bang. Partchenwelt provides an overview of upcoming events and training offers.
With the exhibition "Searching for Traces" in Wels, not only a short, but a deep understanding of the fascinating mechanisms of our universe opens. A destination that you shouldn't miss!
