Thermomix for the rolling angels: cooking together for helpers!
Wels, Österreich - The volunteers of the “Rollende Engel” association are committed to seriously ill people in Austria to fulfill their last wishes. These committed people often work up to 14 hours at a time to meet their needs for medical and nursing care. The many hours in use often leave little time for a healthy diet, which underlines the meaning of community cooking. Thanks to a donation from Alexandra Heilmann, a Thermomix consultant, a new Thermomix for the base in Wels could now be purchased. This generous gift is not only used for the preparation of healthy meals, but also offers space for discussions and exchange among the volunteers. Florian Aichhorn, the chairman of the "rolling angel", is optimistic about the future: "Cooking together not only strengthens hunger, but also the cohesion in the team".
The association and its mission
The "rolling angels" meet the heart's desires from Austria and specialize in planning wishes quickly and implementing wishes within a few hours. The offer is aimed at people who are temporarily bedridden and are no longer able to realize their wishes themselves. On the day of the experience, patients are accompanied by trained staff, including emergency paramedics, DGKP, intensive sisters and doctors. These companions not only ensure the medical concerns, but also contribute to making the day unforgettable, while the trips take place in the vehicles, which are specially converted for begging people - the "rolling angels".
The vehicles are not only technically updated, but also equipped with a homely ambience. Among other things, they offer special suspension, light designs, televisions and even refrigerators to offer passengers the best comfort. All of these efforts are geared towards giving people a piece of quality of life, even if time is pushing.
volunteer engagement in the social area
Such a high commitment is inconceivable without the numerous volunteers. Around 14,000 volunteers of the Red Cross - another important player in the social sector in Austria are also committed to this. The tasks require a high degree of empathy and operational readiness from the helpers, be it in mourning and hospice support, business aid for low-income people or support in crisis locations. These initiatives pursue the goal of creating a livable and supportive community for everyone. If you want to become active yourself, you will find a variety of options throughout the country.
The voluntary commitment enriches both the helpers and those in need and is in demand and appreciated in many areas. Be it at the visiting service for people with little social contacts or on excursions for seniors, everywhere it can be seen: volunteers are an indispensable pillar of our society.
On June 23, 2025, the groundbreaking for the construction of a new running hydropower plant in Traunfall also took place, which is integrated into the plans of Energie AG. This project is intended to help strengthen the security of supply and represents part of Austria's sustainable energy future, in which photovoltaics and wind power also play an important role.
