Emil Matteo: Dramatic ambulance birth in Ottnang!

Vöcklabruck, Österreich - Ottnang. On April 26th it was time: Emil Matteo saw the light of day in the ambulance of the Red Cross. An exciting and quick process in places that kept both the parents and the rescue team in suspense. Already every two minutes, pregnant Valentina Dellinger had contractions and made his way to the vehicle. But only a few hundred meters after the start it quickly became clear: the situation required immediate measures. Rescue paramedics Oliver Brugger and Amin Bahtijarevic were ready and accompanied the birth, which took place just a few minutes after the car departed.

Valentina itself cut through the umbilical cord, which it did with a noticeable joy and a certain serenity. Her positive attitude was extremely important because, as she tells, she felt in good hands in the situation and was not afraid. An emergency doctor was in action shortly after birth and ensured that mother and child were well cared for to the hospital in Ried. Mother and son merged in an intimate scene while a quiet breastfeeding followed.

a proud big brother

The newborn Emil is not only loved by his mother, but also by his big brother, who proudly announced that he was born in the rescue car. The new father Bernhard Kossak also left a lasting impression with his humorous comment on the situation. Dr. Karin Dellinger-Müller, Valentina's mother and experienced practitioner, highlighted the importance of support from the Red Cross and the rescue workers during the birth.

The fact that such emotional experiences are not the exception also show reports from other births in the ambulance, such as that of Robin in Perg. Here the child was born during the journey on the B3 after Patrick Bischof and Victoria Geyrhofer's emergency team was able to quickly invite the pregnant woman in the 39th week. Here, too, the paramedics played a central role and were directly involved in the birth process. So Robin was also born healthy and the mother and child were able to leave the hospital a few days after the birth.

The challenge of births in the emergency services

In rural regions, the medical emergency services can play a decisive role in births. Projects such as "creative obstetrics" in Hesse support emergency services and integrate midwives to optimize obstetrics. These projects are also on the agenda in Austria, since the presence of experienced midwives can significantly reduce the stress and fears at birth [DetailsOrtVöcklabruck, ÖsterreichQuellen
