Urfahr area chooses new faces in the OÖ Seniorenbund-Pühringer remains!
Urfahr-Umgebung, Österreich - On June 18, 2025, the Upper Austria Senior Citizens' Association made some decisive course at the 22nd Ordinary State Day in Linz. Under the motto "getting older is for cowards", the choice for the new state board fell, and some significant personal confirmations were also announced.
dr. Josef Pühringer was re -elected as a state chairman with an impressive 99.8 percent for a third term. In his speech, he emphasized the central role of older people in our society and called for new measures in the areas of care and against age discrimination. At his side are now both proven and new members of the state board, including Arnold Weixelbaumer from Urfahr-Umgebung as the state chairman deputy and the representative of the financial officer Alois Tagerer from Kirchschlag.
new state board
In addition to Weixelbaumer and Taferner, the new board is composed as follows:
- Bernhard Atzmüller (speaker for social affairs, Vorderweißenbach)
- Siegfried Ehrenmüller (educational officer, Haibach in the Mühlkreis)
- Walter Berger (sports officer, Schenkenfelden)
The election also brought broad approval to the new state chairman: Johann Feizlmayr, Johann Azender, Josefine Richter and Ursula Voglsam. In addition, Franz Hiesl continues to work as a state finance officer, together with Alois Tagerer.
at a time when the proportion of older people in the population continues to increase, discussions about the rights and participation of older people are more important than ever. For example, the Federal Ministry of the Federal Department highlights important topics at the international level, including through exchange with countries such as Germany and Japan. This clarifies that it is not just about national issues, but that older people also have to be heard in international committees, such as the United Nations.
growing senior citizens' association
The number of members of the Upper Austria Senior Citizens' Association has risen from 75,054 to 76,462 members in April 2025 since 2021. Pühringer emphasized the importance of volunteer officials - around 11,000 committed people benefit from the fact that the community and social cohesion are promoted in the older generation.
The political partial organization of the senior citizens' association has recently decided on a new statute and is now called "OÖVP seniors". This underlines the focus on political participation for the senior citizens and women in the state of Upper Austria.
The entire event took place in a solemn but respectful setting, since a musical or cultural program was dispensed with. This happened as a commemoration for the victims of an assassination in Graz, which underlined the seriousness of the current social challenges.
Overall, the state parent day shows that the Upper Austria Senior Citizens' Association is determined to work for the concerns of older people. With a strong board and clear demands for the future, responsibility is now in the hands of the elected representatives.
