Gastro change in the Urfahr area: closures and new opportunities!
A breath of fresh air is blowing through the catering industry in the Urfahr-Raum district. But not every new beginning means positive news. The rumors about closures have not stopped at some traditional businesses. The Eidenberger Alm and the Maurerwirt in Kirchschlag are particularly in focus, as fundamental changes are underway here. The owner of the Eidenberger Alm, Johann Schütz, would like to retire in March 2026 and is urgently looking for a buyer for the traditional family business, which has been in the family for 190 years. However, he has announced that the Alm will remain open for weddings and seminars until 2027 and that the existing staff can be handed over. There is also the opportunity to expand the business with a new hotel, as the appropriate dedication is available.
The Maurerwirt in Kirchschlag is also affected by changes. The son doesn't want to take over the business here, which is why new takeovers are urgently needed to bring a breath of fresh air and ideas into the catering industry. However, things are looking on the positive side with the seminar area, which is already well occupied until 2026.
Extensions and news
The Gasthaus zur Gis in Lichtenberg, on the other hand, is focused on growth. From September 3rd, the opening hours will be expanded and it will now also be open to guests on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The inn is an ideal stopover for hiking enthusiasts, as the Mühlviertel region has many recommended tours. The most popular routes are to the Giselawarte, which are medium to easy for the whole family and also offer a classic view.
Things look different at the Gasthaus Berger in Ottenschlag. A company holiday break until August 22nd is worth noting, because the company will be closed at the end of the year and a new tenant is being sought. The last regular month of opening will be November, which shows how quickly changes can happen in the restaurant industry.
A look at the overall market
In times of change, it becomes clear that gastronomy is not just a business, but also a matter of the heart. The search for new ideas and maintaining traditions seem to be particularly important in the Urfahr area in order to secure the diverse gastronomic landscape and meet the needs of the crowd of guests.
How developments in the district will develop remains to be seen. What is certain, however, is that the catering sector in the Urfahr area is facing a change that presents both challenges and opportunities. The future will show which company will make the leap into the new era.
