FC Hertha Wels crowns season with ascent - drama for relegation!
On the last matchday of the regional league center, there was nothing better for FC Hertha Wels than celebrating the end of the season with a 2-0 win against SK Treibach. Valentin Akrap scored the goals in the 59th minute and Markus Lackner in the 76th minute. FC Hertha Wels ends the season with a proud 65 points and climbs to Admiral 2nd league. A great success for the club and a nice end to the fans!
The Union belts secured the runner -up title by defeating DSV Leoben 3: 1. A game that is certainly a reason for joy for the Gurten players and their supporters. While the masters and runner -up are happy, the regional league Mitte has to accept a deep cut: for the first time since 2013 there are four relegated teams from this league.
The relegation of the regional league center
The situation for the last three teams in the table is particularly bitter: SV Wildon, SK Vorwärts Steyr and Union Vöcklamarkt have to relegate to the Upper Austria league. SV Wildon, who landed in 16th place, lost his farewell game against Wallern 0-1 and can no longer hold the league. SK Vorwärts Steyr also did not do much better, they lost 0: 3 to the WAC amateurs and now have to prove themselves in the lower leagues. Union Vöcklamarkt secured a 0-0 against the Deutschlandsberger SC, which was not enough to prevent relegation.
Another thick chunk in this story is the descent from DSV Leoben, which has to leave the season behind with little luck. And that does not stop there: the ASK Voitsberg will descend as 14th of the Admiral 2nd league, since the Young Violets in the Regionalliga Ost could get the runner -up title and thus claim a place in the regional league.
A look at the Austrian league system
The football league system in Austria shows how close the connection between the different leagues is. The Bundesliga, the highest league, is contested by 12 professional teams, while the regional league is the highest amateur class, consists of three seasons with 16 teams each and is divided regionally. Masters of the regional leagues climb directly into the 2nd league, while the last -placed relegated relegations have to hike to the national leagues. As explained [wikipedia] (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/fu%C3%9Fball-Ligasystem_in_%C3%96 Austria), the number of relegations between 2 and 5 varies, which can give the competition an additional voltage.
In view of the coming seasons, it remains to be seen how relegated and promoters will beat. The fact is: Football remains a dynamic, demanding undertaking in Austria that captivates both players and fans.
