Engleitner-Neu praises inclusion in Steyr: Lebenshilfe workshop in focus!

As part of her tour "Mission Social Upper Austria", the club chairwoman and social spokeswoman Sabine Engleitner-Neu visited the Lebenshilfe workshop in Steyr. The focus was on the valuable work that is done there. Seven years after the foundation, the facility presents itself as a place of the inclusion lived, where around 105 clients are accompanied and promoted by 29 employees, how meinbzirk.at reported.

The clients of life aid can work in various areas, including the wood and ceramic workshop and the kitchen. Engleitner-Neu not only praised the committed work of the employees, but also the cooperation with regional companies such as Steyr Automotive, Bellaflora and Buburuza ice cream. These partnerships enable people with impairments to active participation in working life, for example through packaging and sorting work.

demands for more inclusion

Engleitner-Neu made it clear that the state of Upper Austria must ensure the framework for a self-determined life of people with impairments. The current challenges that affect Lebenshilfe and social officer Dörfel to ensure security for the clients was also pointed out. These topics are particularly relevant in view of the approximately 89,000 people in Austria who live with intellectual disabilities and the associated social challenges that Lebenshilfe.at. Last but not least, the club chairman recalled that inclusion in Austria is far from being done. Accessibility remains a central topic. Discrimination and social hurdles continue to slow participation in everyday life, both in the education system and on the labor market. This is also shown by the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabilities, which demands the protection of the rights of people with disabilities.

advisory and service point for inclusion

A facility that is strong for these goals is the advisory and service point for people with disabilities of LNW Lebenshilfe Netzwerk GmbH. Since its foundation in 2021, the advice center has offered individual and free advice on topics such as care, mobility and personal budget. The close cooperation with institutions and authorities aims to reduce barriers and promote participation. Several hundred consultations have been carried out in the past four years, whereby concrete improvements for those affected have been achieved, as reported [LNW.AT] (https://www.lnw.at/allgemeind/seit-vier-jahren-im-dienst-der- Inclusion/)

Engleitner-Neu and Lebenshilfe Steyr are therefore committed to an inclusive society in which people with disabilities can lead a self-determined life. Their commitment and continuing efforts are necessary to support the rights of people with disabilities and to further reduce the social hurdles. This is the only way to ensure respectful handling and the necessary participation in all areas of life.
