Serial accident in Kirchdorf: eight injured, including four children!
On Thursday there was an unfortunate serial accident on Altheimer Straße (B148) in Kirchdorf am Inn (Ried district), in which several people were injured. A total of seven people needed medical help, including four children. The incident occurred when a car steered unexpectedly slowed down, which triggered a chain reaction.
A 46-year-old German was able to prevent a direct collision by reacting quickly, while a compatriot driving behind him turned away on the side lane over the green strip. An 18-year-old from the Gmunden district also managed to avert a collision through an emergency braking. Unfortunately, the 23-year-old Hungarian, who drove behind the 18-year-old, was unable to slow down in time and crashed into his car with his vehicle. The Hungarian was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.
injured children in the accident balance
The two children who sat in the 18-year-old's vehicle, at the age of eleven and eight years, suffered minor injuries and were also taken to the hospital. The 46-year-old and his family, consisting of his wife and the two small children aged three and seven, independently went to a doctor. These incidents once again illustrate the dangers that lurk in road traffic, especially for children.
In Germany, accident injuries are one of the greatest health risks for children and adolescents. As reports KinderSicherheit.de, accidents for children from one year are the most common cause of death. Every eighth accident child has to spend at least one night in the hospital. It also shows that boys at 18.6 % are more often affected by accidents than girls with 14.3 %.
accidents in numbers
In 2021, around 11.5 million children under the age of 15 lived in Germany. Statistical surveys show that around 1.9 million children visited a doctor within one year due to an accident. This year alone, 167,000 children in the hospital need inpatient treatment after an accident.
according to research association.tu-dortmund.de in 2022 almost 23,000 infants and around 53,000 toddlers aged 1 to 4 years were treated due to accident violations. Mainly these injuries concerned head injuries, which were the most common type of injury for both age groups.
The current situation in Kirchdorf am Inn is reminiscent of the need to raise awareness of the safety of children in addition to traffic safety. Accidents provide and remain a serious threat to the health of young people, and preventive measures are crucial to further reduce these number of accidents.
