On Thursday morning, a serious traffic accident occurred in the municipal area of Kirchdorf am Inn, in the Ried im Innkreis district, in which a total of five people were seriously injured. The incident happened on the B148 when a vehicle in column traffic braked unexpectedly. A subsequent driver could not react in time and crashed into the front car. This in turn was pushed to another vehicle, which led to several injuries, including a 23-year-old who was taken to the hospital seriously injured. In addition, four other people, including two children aged eight and eleven, suffered minor injuries. The Kirchdorf am Inn volunteer fire brigade was deployed with 24 people to carry out the clean -up work, while a detour was set up due to the increased traffic volume. The scene of the accident is located near the village of Pirath.

The accident happened around 3 a.m. when two VW Passat and a Mercedes Vito, all occupied with Romanian citizens, were involved in a dramatic collision. The public prosecutor then ordered an accident analytical and technical report, and the driver of the first VW Passat was temporarily arrested and faces an investigation into negligent killing. The B12 was closed in both directions until around 9 a.m., which caused a traffic jam of up to seven kilometers. Rescue workers, including 10 ambulances and two rescue helicopters, were on site to take care of injuries.
