in Ried im Innkreis on June 14th is all about beer: the renowned beer gala and the state championship core of the hobby and commercial breweries attract beer lovers and gourmets into the farmers' market hall. From 5:30 p.m. the event will be organized by the club and is part of the Austrian Beer Challenge (ABC) . There the best beers are awarded in Austria and offered for tasting.

The Austrian Beer Challenge, which was launched in 2003, is the first and only state championship for brewers and home brewers in Austria. This year, more than 760 beers from over 120 different styles were submitted, a remarkable proof of the diversity and creativity of domestic brewing. At the blind tasting from May 23 to 25, over 100 qualified jurors rated the numerous beers. The final on June 14 promises exciting awards in 20 main categories, including classics such as Pils, the Austrian Märzen and wheat beers.

The event is organized on a voluntary basis and has also been enjoying international recognition since it was confirmed by the European Beer Consumers Union (EBCU) in 2018. Interested participants and jurors were able to register for the competition between February 7 and April 25. In the evening after the award, an XXL regulars' table takes place in the Riederwirt, in which a 50-liter barrel of beer is available free of charge for the participants. There is also a Heurigenbuffet with regional delicacies - an excellent opportunity to celebrate the beer culture together.

Another eye -catcher in the Austrian beer landscape is the new disposable deposit system, which has been in force since January 1, 2025. A deposit of 25 cents is charged to beverage packaging made of plastic and metal. This step should not only benefit the environment, but also improve the return rate of bottles.
