Linz, Österreich - The transition from Volksgarten to Landstrasse in Linz is being redesigned. DND Landscape Planning ZT GmbH was commissioned to plan the redesign. This project is part of a comprehensive inner city concept that is supposed to drive the development of the city.

The Volksgarten is a central point of contact, especially for pedestrians who change here between the city center and the train station. Goethe crossing also plays a role as an important transfer point. As part of the redesign, the southern country road is also put into focus. The aim is to make the area more inviting and to improve the quality of stay.

The planning includes various goals, including the creation of an inviting place, improvement in the feeling of security and a better orientation for all road users. The all year round usability of the area is also in the foreground. The detailed plans are to be presented in autumn, so that the first concrete steps towards a more attractive city center will soon be taken.

The new inner city concept goes beyond the redesign of the folk garden. With this approach, Linz reacts to the challenges that many cities are busy today. The development of the city center

In order to react to current developments in the city centers, a sustainable mix of trade, gastronomy, culture and social offers is planned. The creation of a pedestrian zone between Goethestrasse and Bürgerstrasse is also discussed, while the section from Bürgerstrasse to Bismarckstrasse remains a meeting zone.

The planned concept attaches great importance to citizen participation. Over 4,000 participants took part in a survey in autumn, and future workshops are also planned. These measures are part of a larger development plan to increase the quality of life and attractiveness of downtown Linz.

In times of increasing vacancies and the shrinking of retail, as it is discussed by Difu, it is necessary to develop innovative concepts for the city center. The redesign in Linz are a step in the right direction, towards a diverse and multifunctional use of the urban space. This process is underpinned by close cooperation with the population and the relevant stakeholders.
