NATO is preparing: The end of neutrality and the way to war!

Gmunden, Österreich - The geopolitical tensions increase and the military strategies in Europe are also changing. A current decision by NATO now marks the beginning of the largest upgrade initiative since the Cold War. As reported Zeitderbeutrbeit.at, up to 5% of the gross domestic product should be invested in arms. The states should make the states fit for an emergency. However, critics warn that this upgrade is not only a high financial burden, but also means a redistribution from the bottom up, while wages stagnate and remain frozen.

This development is not carried out in the air empty. According to the current strategic concept of NATO, which was decided at the summit in Madrid 2022, the Russian attack war against Ukraine is a central starting point for the changed security situation in Europe. NATO states that authoritarian regimes question the interests of its member countries, and clearly formulates that there is no peace in Europe. The war is thus perceived as a potential means to cover the structural crisis of western capitalism.

The security architecture of NATO

The strategic concept of NATO takes on a clear position: Russia is perceived as the greatest threat. NATO emphasizes that collective defense remains the most important task and undertakes to "defend every square meter of the Bündnisterritrita". In addition, according to the new 'Force Model', the quickly ready -to -use associations should be increased from 40,000 to 100,000 soldiers. This means that NATO countries should be willing to mobilize up to 500,000 soldiers within 30 to 180 days in order to react to the variety of hybrid threats, including cyber attacks.

like bpb.de, NATO also strengthened its presence on the eastern flank. For example, Germany plans to permanently station a brigade of around 5,000 soldiers in Lithuania, while the United States is building a fixed headquarters in Poland and increasing its troops there. It is questionable that the critical voices that identify such upgrade measures as a "security risk" are often ignored.

Austria and NATO policy

In Austria, neutrality is repeatedly referred to as the "rhetorical fig leaf", since the domestic ministers also work for a massive expansion of the federal army and demand billions. This makes it clear that Austria also seems to be in the coordinate system of NATO war policy. Here the question arises whether neutrality can still be maintained in times of geopolitical upheavals.

The concern about the upgrade program is also reinforced by the fact that historically no upgrade program could prevent wars; Rather, they prepare the stage for future conflicts. It remains to be seen how the European security landscape will develop in the coming years and whether a decreasing importance of global armaments control will actually be observed.

In the midst of all of these changes, it is clear: the focus of the war industrial profits is in the foreground, while the needs of the population often fall by the wayside. A rethinking seems urgently necessary before the costs of this upgrade are not only financially but also socially clearly noticeable.
