Tragedy in Eferding: Six -year -old recorded by Zug and fatally injured
Eferding, Österreich - A tragic incident caused dismay on June 2, 2025 in Eferding. Around 4:30 p.m., a six -year -old boy was hit by a railcar from the Linz local railway while he ran on his bike. According to Fire Brigade Magazin, the boy was about 15 meters from his mother when he crossed the unsecured level crossing, although the light signal system showed red.
The railcar guide, a 56-year-old man, immediately initiated an emergency braking, but it came too late to prevent the impact. The boy was dragged several meters and finally got under the train. At 4:36 p.m., the fire brigades Eferding and Hinzenbach were alerted after the terror's report had been received. The emergency services arrived quickly and started with the rescue work.
rescue measures and emergency aid
At 4:55 p.m., the Alkoven volunteer fire brigade was alerted with a crane vehicle and 68-ton lifting pillows. The teams discussed the procedure with the Lilo staff on site. It was decided to raise the train to recover the boy without moving the train out of the rails. Despite all the efforts, the emergency doctor could only find the child's death later. The Red Cross crisis intervention team took care of the shaken family and the forces used, while the fire station in Eferding was provided for care.
The head of operations, Jürgen Hubner, commented on the tragic circumstances and emphasized the psychological burden for everyone involved. The incident occurred at a level crossing near Karl Schachinger Strasse, not far from the Hali company, which also illustrates the drama of the accident.
Security at level crossings
This incident throws a sad light on the dangers of unsecured level crossings in Austria. According to TÜV Nord, 98 percent of all fatal rail accidents are done in such places. In a study it was found that 27 percent of all train accidents occur at level crossings. Experts urgently warn of the long braking routes of trains and emphasize the importance of additional safety precautions such as barriers and warning lights. Pedestrians and cyclists often underestimate the risk of crossing a level crossing.
As can be seen from the tragedy in Eferding, a short moment of carelessness can have serious consequences. All road users are asked to exercise special caution at level crossings. After all, it is better to arrive too late than pay the carelessness with a life.
