Rainbow parade 2025: Family, friendship and courage combines in Vienna!

Bad Ischl, Österreich - May the May is coming to an end and the time of the year begins that makes the hearts of many people beat faster in Vienna. The largest and most colorful demonstration in the city will take place on June 142025 - the Rainbow parade as part of the Pride Month. The motto "Unite in Pride" will be particularly important this year, because the LGBTIQ+community and its supporters will flock to the streets to fight for rights and visibility.

The parade sets a strong sign against discrimination and for a common, respectful coexistence. On this day, not only members of the community, but also families and friends are invited to protest together against the forgetting of the LGBTIQ+topics. Around 340,000 people came last year, and the organizers expect a similar number of spectators again this year. The path of the parade runs against the direction of travel around the ring road, a good reason to bring color into the gray of the city.

Pride Village as a central meeting point

In addition to the parade, the Pride Village at Rathausplatz will be much more than "just" an event from June 12th to 14th. A colorful mix of stage program, children's and youth zone and information stands are offered here, which will act as the central meeting point for the LGBTIQ+community. The frame fits: Planned live acts such as Melanie C, Rose May Alaba and Conchita Wurst will make the crowd cheer. The AIDS Hilfe Vienna will also be on site and offer free HIV and STI tests to offer an important preventive measure.

The final point celebration on Rathausplatz is enriched this year by exciting live acts such as JJ and Metamorkid, and the FM4 team will report on the parade live. The after-pride party in the Resselpark also promises an exuberant celebration from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. to end the day properly.

social challenges

While the festival is approaching, an important aspect does not remain unaffected: the challenges for the LGBTIQ+rights in the EU. In particular, incidents in Slovakia and Hungary show that the path to equality is still wide. In addition, LGBTIQ+person in Austria reports about an increase in attacks, which urgently increases the need for security and social support.

The chairwoman of Hosi Vienna, Ann-Sophie Otte, criticizes the lack of protective measures that lead to discrimination against LGBTQIA+. "We notice massive steps in several countries," she emphasizes, and calls on the federal government to create legal improvements. According to a report by the Chamber of Labor, over 40% of the LGBTQ+employees in Austria are not outed-for fear of exclusion and discrimination. Such conditions are anything but acceptable in a society that should become more and more open.

The Minister of Justice Alma Zadic has already announced the first steps to process the legal discrimination against LGBTIQ+person. An important goal, especially for many people like Gregor, a 26-year-old care assistant, is of immense importance that nobody is disadvantaged because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. "I would like a future to be lived in equality and respect in everyday life," said Gregor with emphasis.

It is certain: the Pride Month not only brings joy and color, but also the opportunity to draw attention to grievances and to stand up for a fairer society. From the rainbow parade to the many events in the Pride Village - it is a month that is not only celebrated, but also taken seriously.
